Phil Klein <br />Council Member Ward 2 <br />Q: How long have you been a <br />resident of Hugo? <br />Resident of Hugo for 31 years <br />Q: How long have you served <br />on the Council? <br />12 years on the City Council <br />Q: Any other Committees/ <br />Commissions/community <br />organizations that you <br />serve on? <br /> Committees served on include: Hugo City Council Ward 2 <br />Representative, Hugo Economic Development Committee- <br />Vice President, Hugo Ordinance Review Committee, Hugo <br />Beautification Committee, Land Use Advisory Committee <br />(MetCouncil) - Vice Chair, Metro Area Water Supply Advisory <br />Committee (MetCouncil), St. Genevieve’s Church Finance <br />Council –Chair, and Member of the Hugo Business Association. <br />Q: What is your favorite thing about Hugo? <br /> We chose Hugo because of its rural setting and our ability to <br />raise animals, have a garden, and grow fruit trees. Hugo has <br />been a great place to raise our family!! <br />Q: What is your favorite thing to do in Hugo? <br /> I enjoy ice fishing at the surrounding lakes and eating in or <br />dining out at our local food establishments. <br />Dave Strub <br />Council Member Ward 3 <br />Q: How long have you been <br />a resident of Hugo? <br />Moved to Hugo in 1987. <br />Q: How long have you <br />served on the Council? <br />Appointed to the Council <br />in June 2021 (following <br />Chuck Haas retirement). <br />Q: Any other Committees/Commissions/community <br /> organizations that you serve on? <br /> Original member of the Parks, Rec, Open Space Commission <br />in 1998. Finished out as chair of the commission until 2021 <br />(when appointed to Council). <br />Q: What is your favorite thing about Hugo? <br /> I have to name two things. One “big picture” item / one “local, <br />personal” item: <br /> • The way Hugo has managed growth and still maintains a small <br />town feel. <br /> • I have lived in the same house since 1987 and have the best <br />neighbors. Hugo embodies the “Good Neighbor” mantra. <br />I sense this is true throughout Hugo. <br />Q: What is your favorite thing to do in Hugo? <br /> I am blessed to live on Sunset Lake and get to waterski almost <br />every day in the spring/summer/fall. <br />Tom WeidtMayor <br />Q: How long have you been a <br /> resident of Hugo? <br /> My wife and I built a house <br /> and moved here in 1999. <br />Q: How long have you served <br /> on the Council? <br /> I have spent 14 years on the <br />Council (10 as Mayor). <br />Q: Any other Committees/ <br />Commissions/community <br />organizations that you <br />serve on? <br /> 4 years on both parks and planning commissions, 10 years <br />on EDA and board of zoning. <br />Q: What is your favorite thing about Hugo? <br /> I enjoy the mix of urban and rural that gives Hugo a great <br /> mix of uses. <br />Q: What is your favorite thing to do in Hugo? <br /> I enjoy our park system and the beauty of Eastern Hugo. <br /> <br />Becky Petryk <br />Council Member Ward 1 <br />Q: How long have you been a <br />resident of Hugo? <br /> I have been a resident of <br />Hugo since 1985. My family <br />moved to White Bear in 1963 <br />and I graduated from White <br />Bear Lake High School in <br /> 1972. I married my husband, <br />Jim, WBL Class of 1970, in 1974 and moved around the country for <br />9 years, as he was a Navy P-3 pilot. We returned to MN in 1983. <br />Q: How long have you served on the Council? <br /> I have served on the Hugo City Council since being elected <br /> in November of 1998. <br />Q: Any other Committees/Commissions/community <br /> organizations that you serve on? <br /> I currently serve on the MET Council Transportation Advisory <br />Board. We approve and fund projects across the seven <br />county metropolitan area. <br />Q: What is your favorite thing about Hugo? <br /> My favorite things about Hugo are the wonderful people who live, <br />work and volunteer here! <br />Q: What is your favorite thing to do in Hugo? <br /> My favorite thing to do in Hugo is to get my Fitbit steps by walking <br />through our neighborhoods and having the opportunity to say hi <br />and talk to people along the way. <br />MEET YOUR COUNCIL <br />2
