Administrative Intern <br />Job Description <br />August 2022 <br /> <br /> <br />Position Title: Administrative Intern <br />Position Salary: $18.00/hour <br />General Statement of Duties: Assist the City Administrator and City Clerk in the management of the day-to-day <br />duties in the City. <br />Supervision Received: Works under the general direction of the City Administrator and City Clerk <br />Supervision Exercised: None <br />Objective and Description: The City of Hugo is offering an advanced internship position for a capable individual <br />who will receive comprehensive exposure to local government management. The position will assist the City <br />Administrator by completing projects within a variety of City departments. The Administrative Intern will <br />perform highly responsible organizational and policy related work that will include collaboration and mentorship <br />with city leadership. <br />The internship is expected to provide a strong professional development experience relevant to pursuing a <br />career in city administration. Anticipated work will involve the fields of communications, finance, human <br />resources, parks, planning, public works, engineering, and fire & rescue. <br />The City is seeking an excellent communicator with a strong work ethic who will respectfully and effectively <br />interact and cooperate with members of the public, elected officials, and all levels of city staff. <br />The Administrative Intern serves as a fully functioning member of the City Hall team, generally working 40 hours <br />per week within an in-person, supportive, and collaborative working environment, and serving between six <br />months to one year with the City. <br />Typical Duties Performed: <br />The listed examples may not include all duties required of this position. Duties may vary from time to time based <br />on the needs of the City. <br /> <br />• Assist the City Administrator, City Clerk, and City leadership team on a variety of tasks and projects that <br />are intended to improve operations and increase efficiencies. <br />• Attend and participate in staff meetings, City Council and Commission meetings, and present <br />information at meetings as appropriate. <br />• Explore, research and analyze policy issues, compile data, prepare and present reports. <br />• Assist City Clerk with election duties. <br />• Assist in implementation of new program management. <br />• Provide coordination for project development. <br />• Create agenda materials for meetings. <br />• Review and update certain Human Resource management policies, personnel policies, and employee <br />handbook. <br />• Draft correspondence. <br />• Communicate effectively with staff, the public, the business community, and other such persons on a <br />daily basis. <br />• Assist with staff support for Historical Commission.
