Dan and Katie Mach
14288 Grantaire ln n
Hugo,MN 55038
August 13 2023
To be included in the record as our response to proposed window well on
14320 Grantaire Ln N
City building officials and all those involved in planning our city, thank you for
your time and efforts serving our city.We have called Hugo our home for over
15 years and have enjoyed being residents of the Victor Gardens development
for several years now. With regards to the variance request from Nick Heinle
of Prairie Homes LLC,we are very frustrated that a variance request was not
made before the building and structure was built, even approved. The
variance request should in fact be called an after the fact variance request.
We do not approve of this and would have certainly rejected this variance if it
was proposed the way we feel it should have been, before anything was built
or approved. We were never approached by the city or the builder with
concerns and would have never thought this was even a possibility in our
neighborhood.
We have concerns not only for us but also the future residents of this
proposed lot,as the lack of a proper setback could allow for future moisture
issues not to mention fire and safety risks. As adjacent property owners on
14288,this structure and its proximity to our property is of great concern. We
fear that the proximity of the well to our property line will affect our home
value in a negative way,as no other structures on our street appear to be that
close.Furthermore, the side setback on the other side of this property is
generously more than the 5 ft rule, which is infuriating considering we are on
the short side.Simply put,if the proper rules and timing were followed the
structure and foundation should have been set at least within the allowed
setback, there was never a need to encroach any additional distance at all to
the property line.We will forever be dissapointed with this process and hope
that this doesn’t lead to any future problems as a result.
Sincerely,
Dan and Katie Mach
