I was recently notified by mail that Nick Heinle of Prairie Homes will be appearing before the city council to request a variance on behalf of his currently-under-construction home at 14320 Grantaire Lane North. The Graintaire Lane house is directly behind my home at 14284 Cosette Lane North. I'm writing to express my support for Prairie Homes and their request. I have lived in this neighborhood for many years. In fact, this is my second home in the neighborhood. We loved it so much in Victor Gardens that we returned after a short move to Oregon. I have seen this neighborhood grow and evolve and fill with people and families. Throughout the years, many builders—dozens of builders—tried and failed to establish themselves in our special community. In the opinion of our board, and many of us who live here, those builders failed because they viewed the building of a home as a transaction. They wanted to throw something into the soil and move on to the next project somewhere else. This does not describe Nick and Prairie Homes, and this is why all of us love his work and his family. Nick isn't a national builder. He's one of our neighbors. He cares immensely about the families who live here, about the product he creates, and about the lasting quality and impression his homes leave in this neighborhood. I believe Prairie's request should be granted. Despite the need for a variance, the home looks appropriately placed and will certainly add to the character, value, and appeal of our neighborhood.
