FINAL DELIVERABLE : HSHC 7
chairs, etc. The amenities should also include setting up tables and chairs outside so that during the
summer people can gather outside. We don’t recommend charging for the use of this outdoor space.
Trailhead
The trail and the trailhead have been popular among residents of Hugo and the surrounding cities.
The trailhead is just a short walk from the Hardwood Creek Regional Trail. It can be used as a place for
visiting members to rest, recharge, and learn a little history of the Schoolhouse.
During the winter months, the trailhead can be used by snowmobilers and cross-country skiers.
Another fun idea for winter would be to host a snowman-building contest where visitors can build a
snowman and vote for their favorite. The trailhead would then be a place for those using the trails to
warm up and maybe even have some hot chocolate.
During the spring, summer, and fall, the trail can be used for horseback or bike riding. There
could be picnic tables and benches at the trailhead for a lunch break or resting space. We recommend
creating a water station to appeal to visitors who arrive with dogs or horses. The trailhead could also be
host to flower gardens and farmer's markets.
Seasonal Activities
Seasonal activities can be used in the schoolhouse to attract visitors throughout the year. One
seasonal activity that can be used in the schoolhouse is educational workshops on traditional crafts and
skills that were taught in the one-room schoolhouse. The schoolhouse can also provide gardening classes
in the spring. This can include a community garden in which community members can work together
outside the schoolhouse. The schoolhouse can have historical reenactments every summer showcasing life
in the one-room schoolhouse.
Winter can include workshops that offer classes on traditional winter activities such as knitting,
storytelling, and or making historical crafts. Lastly, in the fall, the schoolhouse can host a harvest festival
and heritage day. The harvest festival can include traditional games and fall-themed activities that honor
local history and culture.
