FINAL DELIVERABLE : HSHC 16
Recommendations
We propose using the Hopkins Schoolhouse and Heritage Center as a museum where people can
come and immerse themselves in interactive exhibits. These exhibits will include using multi senses for
imaginative play, listening to audio recordings, and touching objects. As previously mentioned, we
recommend charging $5 per person for the museum visits. For group-led activities, we recommend
charging $4 per person for a group of 10 or more. The organizations that featured a combination of group
activities and a traditional museum visit resulted in successful operating activities.
The Schoolhouse can create a social media account that will market the entire space. We
recommend creating both Instagram and Facebook accounts to cater to a diverse audience, targeting
different age groups. These accounts can be used to promote gathering spaces, show operations of the
trailhead, promote seasonal events, and show descriptions of the exhibits in the museum. Followers of the
social media pages can share information with their followers, allowing the organization to utilize the
word-of-mouth advertising that has supported other community events.
We recommend the Hopkins Schoolhouse and Heritage Center add a section on their website that
includes the rates, hours, and amenities the gathering spaces offer. Additionally, we recommend a
newsletter that people can subscribe to. This newsletter can include information about the interactive
museum exhibits, volunteer-led activities, fun history facts, and promote the seasonal events happening at
the time of the letter. Lastly, we propose an online and in-person gift shop for the Schoolhouse and
Heritage Center as another avenue of attracting interest through their website.
Our final recommendation is to apply for grants as needed to supplement service revenue. While
the State of Minnesota provides legacy grants either directly or through the Minnesota Historical Society,
we have identified some other resources that can be explored. In addition to the provision of grants, the
Minnesota Historical Society provides connections to different organizations that can support the Hopkins
Schoolhouse and Heritage Center. These organizations can offer financial, strategic marketing, and
operational support for the Hopkins Schoolhouse and Heritage Center. A website link to this list of
Page 62 of 89
