Hugo Historical Commission and HSHC Board <br />member, Brad LeTourneau, led the development of the <br />initial schoolhouse grounds plan in collaboration with <br />community volunteer, Kyle Manley of Manley Gardening <br />LLC, who stepped forward to offer his design services, <br />donation of plants shown in the site plan, and landscaping <br />services. Repair of the roof and soffit was paid for through <br />a combination of funds raised from individual and <br />corporate donors, and donated services from Precise <br />Exteriors LLC. <br />5b – Support sufficient for repair of <br />the chimney. <br />Complete. Repair of the chimney was paid for through a <br />combination of funds raised from individual and corporate <br />donors, and donated services and materials from Sealant <br />Technicians. <br />5c – 50% of funds necessary for <br />repair of the siding and windows. <br />Incomplete. Fundraising efforts for the repair of the siding <br />and windows for the building kicked off in early 2024 and <br />will continue through the spring and summer. Based on the <br />experience with the pace and timing of fundraising in 2023, <br />it is likely the siding and window repairs will occur in early <br />fall 2024. <br />6.Additional accomplishments <br />beyond 2023 Measures of <br />Success <br />6a – Plan and support to bring <br />electricity to the site. <br />HSHC Board members met with representatives from <br />Connexus Energy in November to discuss their interest in <br />supporting the efforts to restore the Hopkins Schoolhouse. <br />Connexus has confirmed that they will cover the cost of the <br />service charge to bring power to the site in Spring 2024. <br />6b – Secured donation of materials <br />for basement windows. <br />A community member has stepped forward with a donation <br />of glass block windows to be installed in the basement. <br />6c – Secured donation of display <br />cases for heritage center. <br />Rolseth Drug in Forest Lake donated several display cases <br />to the Forest Lake Historical Society for future use in the <br />heritage center. A volunteer stepped forward to store the <br />display cases until the heritage center is restored. <br />6d – Donations received for <br />fundraising effort. <br />In fall 2023, board members began receiving donated items <br />from community members to be included in a garage sale <br />event in spring 2024 to raise funds for Phase 2 restoration. <br />Page 5 of 89
