Council Meeting Minutes for February 5, 2024 <br />Page 3 of 8 <br /> <br />Approve Annual Performance Review for Finance and Public Works Administrative <br />Assistant Jennifer Compton <br /> <br />At its February 7, 2022, meeting, Council approved the hiring of Jennifer Compton as the <br />Finance and Public Works Administrative Assistant. Adoption of the Consent Agenda approved <br />the annual performance review for Finance and Public Works Administrative Assistant Jennifer <br />Compton. <br /> <br />Approve Tom Kaspszak as New Fire Department Chief Engineer <br /> <br />On Wednesday, January 24, 2024, Fire Chief Jim Compton, Jr. and Deputy Chief David Jensen <br />conducted interviews for the open Chief Engineer position with the Fire Department. After <br />interviewing potential candidates, Tom Kaspszak was recommended to fill the position. Tom <br />has been with the fire department since December of 2014 and an Engineer with the department <br />since June of 2017. Adoption of the Consent Agenda approved Tom Kaspszak as the new Chief <br />Engineer with a start date of February 1, 2024. <br /> <br />Approve Advertisement for Public Works Summer Seasonal Workers <br /> <br />Staff had requested authorization to advertise and hire a total of seven seasonal employees for <br />the Public Works Department. In the 2024 General Fund Budget, Council approved the seasonal <br />positions. Seasonal Public Works Employees would assist with mowing, garbage/litter removal, <br />park maintenance, boulevard, and general Public Works maintenance. A starting hourly wage of <br />$18.00/hour was budgeted in the 2024 General Fund Budget for these positions. These positions <br />would not exceed 40 hours per week. Adoption of the Consent Agenda approved the <br />advertisement for Public Works Summer Seasonal workers. <br /> <br />Approve Advertisement for Administrative Intern <br /> <br />Included in the 2024 Budget was a position for an Administrative Intern. The person in this <br />position would help with miscellaneous administrative projects and assist the City Clerk in the <br />2024 elections. Adoption of the Consent Agenda approved the advertisement for an <br />Administrative Intern. <br /> <br />Approve Donation from the Hugo American Legion to the Hugo Fire Department <br /> <br />The Hugo American Legion requested to donate $1,000 to the Hugo Fire Department for <br />equipment. All donations to the Fire Department needed to be approved by the Council. <br />Adoption of the Consent Agenda approved the $1,000 donation from the Hugo American Legion <br />to the Hugo Fire Department. <br /> <br />Approve Special Event Permit for Beatercross Snowmobile Race on Saturday, March 16, <br />2024 <br /> <br />The Hugo Knight Riders Snowmobile Club had applied for a Special Event Permit to hold <br />Beatercross on the Whitaker property located at 7195 137th street. The event would be a backyard <br />snow-cross style vintage snowmobile race for sleds 2003 and older. This would be the second
