Program Support
With the change of use, we recommend closing the south access to the mobile home park and only
allowing access to the park and the new apartment building from the north access point. This should
include re-establishing the ditch at the south access so it cannot be used as an illegal access. Multiple
access points create additional conflict which has been shown to increase crash rates.
The right turn lane should be extended to the north access. This may require reconstruction/restriping,
depending on the thickness and width of the shoulder in this location.
We recommend a dedicated southbound left turn lane over the current bypass lane at the access as they
have been shown to be a much more effective tool for reducing conflicts and reducing crash rates.
If you have any questions regarding this comment, please contact Kaare Festvog in MnDOT's East Area
Traffic Safety Unit at Kaare.Festvog@state.mn.us or 651-234-7814.
Work Zones
The plan will need Traffic Control pay item and notes on the plan sheets on traffic control for TH61
work and associated impacts.
If you have any questions regarding this comment, please contact Kevin Farraher at
Kevin.Farraher@state.mn.us or 651-775-1270.
Signal Design
The fiber optic cable (36sm) in conduit running on the East side of TH 61 between the signal at 152nd
street north to 147th street south will have to replaced and tested if damaged during construction of this
project. Include the fiber optic layout showing work along with the fiber optic testing sheets. Show in
place fiber optic cable on layout.
If you have any questions regarding this comment, please contact Stephen Kuralle at
Stephen.Kuralle@state.mn.us or 651-234-7802.
Signing
A stop sign should be 36x36 and installed on 2.5 square tube according to MnDOT standards
hqp://www.dot.state.mn.us/trafficeng/signing//lans.html please include the correct needed details in the
plan with appropriate base according to surface type.
If you have any questions regarding this comment, please contact Joe Bruer at
Joseph.Bruer@state.mn.us or 651-234-7837.
Water Resources
A MnDOT drainage permit is required before development occurs.
