<br /> <br />Job Description <br /> <br />Position Title: Captain <br />Department: Fire Department <br />Reports to: Deputy Chief or Assistant Chief <br />Pay Grade: Part Time/Paid On-Call <br />Salary: Per City Salary Resolution <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Purpose <br />Perform duties essential to the Fire Department. <br /> <br />Organizational Relationships <br />Communicate with: Fire department personnel, and other city staff. <br />Supervise: Lieutenants and other subordinate staff. <br />Receives work assignments from: Chief Officers <br /> <br />Essential Duties / Responsibilities <br />The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed <br />as exclusive or all inclusive; other duties may be required or assigned. <br /> <br />Essential Functions <br /> Performs all essential and other functions of Lieutenant position. <br /> Acts as an incident commander in the absence of a Chief Officer. <br /> Acts as a representative of the department at community events. <br /> Attends required meetings that are over and above those required of a <br />Lieutenant or Firefighter position. <br /> Provides a positive attitude in the performance of duties. <br /> Assists in managing apparatus and equipment inventory software. <br /> <br />Other Functions <br /> (Training Captain) <br /> Establishes and schedules training drills. <br /> Works within the given training budget. <br /> Schedules all required classes for newly hired employees. <br /> Maintains all training records. <br /> Develops and/or instructs training sessions as needed. <br /> Acts as a member of the hiring committee. <br /> Schedules and/or develops extra training as the need arises. <br /> Encourages employees to attend extra classes in related subjects. <br /> Maintains all course outlines and training materials. <br /> Submits annually a year-end report to the Fire Chief on the completed training <br />and upcoming training for the annual report. <br /> Encourages safe practices during all training events. <br /> Follows up with colleges or other training entities regarding billing, attendance, <br />curriculum, or other issues. <br /> <br />(Safety Captain) <br /> Acts as the health and safety officer for all functions of the department. <br /> Establishes and maintains a written respiratory protection program.
