<br /> <br />Job Description <br /> <br />Position Title: Firefighter <br />Department: Fire Department <br />Reports to: Lieutenant <br />Pay Grade: Part Time/Paid On-Call <br />Salary: Per City Salary Resolution <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Purpose <br />Perform duties essential to the Fire Department. <br /> <br />Organizational Relationships <br />Communicate with: Fire department personnel and other city staff <br />Supervises: None <br />Receives work assignments from: Department Officers <br /> <br />Essential Duties / Responsibilities <br />The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed <br />as exclusive or all inclusive; other duties may be required or assigned. <br /> <br />Essential Functions <br /> Responds to fire and other emergency calls. <br />• Drives and operates firefighting vehicles and equipment in a safe and <br />appropriate manner. <br />• Selects hose and nozzle depending on the type of fire and direct stream of <br />water or chemical onto fire. <br />• Positions and climbs ladders to gain access to upper levels of buildings or to <br />assist individuals from burning structures. <br />• Frequently talks, listens, sits, stands, crawls, kneels, balances, reaches or <br />maneuvers certain ways. <br />• Frequently lifts 10 pounds and occasionally lifts and/or carries 100 pounds. <br />• Creates openings in a building for ventilation or entrance. <br />• Administers EMS to all injured persons. <br />• Communicates with supervisor. <br />• Acts as a representative of the department at community events in a <br />professional and positive manner. <br />• Acts as Incident Command in the absence of Chief Officers, Captains, or <br />Lieutenants. <br />• Provides a positive attitude in the performance of duties. <br /> <br />Other Functions <br />• Participates in training drills, meetings, demonstrations, and public events <br />within or around the City of Hugo. <br />• Attends training courses, reads and studies assigned materials related to fire <br />prevention, suppression, rescue, training, public fire safety education and <br />emergency medical services. <br />• Performs assigned duties in maintaining apparatus, buildings, equipment, <br />grounds, and hydrant. <br />• Participates in educating the public in fire safety and fire prevention. <br />
