Fire Fighter Job Description <br />Page 2 of 3 <br /> <br /> <br />Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities <br />• Ability to handle extensive training in operations of apparatus, tools and <br />Equipment. <br />• Ability to work in extreme conditions including but not limited to heat, cold, <br />heights, confined spaces, and high stress environments. <br />• Ability to perform hazardous tasks under emergency conditions, which may <br />require strenuous exertion under such handicaps as smoke and cramped <br />surroundings, and in the inspections of buildings for fire hazards to prevent <br />fires from starting. <br />• Ability to complete and pass the Firefighter Physical Fitness Test. <br />• Ability to complete and pass the Firefighter Oral Interview Test. <br />• Ability to complete and pass the Firefighter Personal Evaluation. <br />• Ability to complete and pass the Firefighter pre-employment physical, health <br />history, drug screen “non-DOT” and criminal background check. <br />• Ability to work with sensitive and confidential information. <br />• Ability to complete firefighter probationary requirements within 2 years of hire. <br /> <br />Education and/or Certifications Required <br />• High School Diploma or GED equivalent <br /> <br />Education and/or Certifications required within 2-year probationary period <br />• EMSRB Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) State Certification <br />• Firefighter I & II State Certification <br />• National Incident Management System (NIMS) 700,100, 200 Certifications <br />• Pass the Hugo Fire Department competency check. <br /> <br />Desired Education and/or Certifications <br /> Hazmat Ops State Certification <br /> Fire Apparatus Operator (FAO) Class and/or State Certification <br /> <br />OR <br /> <br /> Any alternatives or substitutions to the above qualifications or education as <br />the Fire Chief may find appropriate. <br /> <br /> <br />Annual Requirements <br />• Attain the established percentages needed for calls and training to be held in <br />good standing with the department. <br />• Maintain 100% of mandatory training included but not limited to Emergency <br />Medical Responder modules and CPR training, OSHA Right to Know, Blood <br />Borne Pathogens and other firefighter training required to maintain <br />certifications provided by the department and approved outside entities. <br />• Receive clearance from annual medical evaluation to resume duties as a <br />firefighter for the City of Hugo based on current medical tests including, but <br />not limited to, SCBA/N95 Fit Testing, Hearing, Cardiac and Pulmonary <br />Functions, and any other tests deemed necessary by the City of Hugo Fire <br />Department or medical professionals hired by the City of Hugo.
