Letter from the Mayor
As I begin my twelfth year as your Mayor, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on
the community that has developed due to volunteers coming together. Hugo would
not be the place it is today without the work of residents who volunteer their time to
contribute to their community, and I’d like to highlight a few organizations involved in
this important work. The City Council has worked to maintain a close relationship with
our community organizations that share our vision of making Hugo a fantastic place
to live, work, and play.
First, I’d like to mention the Hugo
chapter of the Yellow Ribbon Network,
who are celebrating their 15th
Anniversary this year!
The Yellow Ribbon Network connects local
government units, schools, law enforcement,
social services, churches, civic and volunteer
organizations to support military families
during deployment. The Hugo chapter of the
Yellow Ribbon Network hosts several
community events including Burger Night –
a fundraiser to support military families
every fourth Monday of the month at the
Hugo American Legion, and the Welcome
Home Pheasant Hunt, which takes members
of the Minnesota National Guard on a guided
hunt upon return from overseas deployment.
The Hugo Yellow Ribbon Network is always
looking for new volunteers; please contact
chair Chuck Haas at Charles.haas27@
gmail.com for more information.
Next, I’d like to highlight a community organization that plays a vital role for many
in Hugo, the Hugo Good Neighbors Food Shelf (HGNFS). The food shelf’s
mission is to “provide food to families or individuals in need while maintaining
their dignity.” In 2024, the food shelf participated in the Minnesota FoodShare
program, which connects HGNFS with organizations across the state to ensure
that service is consistent to those in need. The food shelf’s needs will grow as the
community continues to grow.
(cont’d on next page)
SPRING2025
In this issue...
Mayor Weidt Recognizes
Community Organizations .........1-2
Become A Volunteer
Commissioner.... ............................2
Meet Sergeant Wieland .................3
Juvenile Curfews ...........................3
Community Impact Unit ...............3
Public Works ..................................4
Disposable Wipes Issues................4
Spring Cleanup Day Info ...............5
Oneka Park Improvements ............6
Family Rock!
