Park and Recreation Opportunities / Issues <br /> HHM Land <br /> Hugo, Minnesota <br /> General Overview <br /> • HHM land included in area planned for Community Park#2. <br /> • Available land area is large enough for large athletic complex. <br /> • Land is located in close proximity to existing and possible future center of Hugo. <br /> • Land close to existing park,trails and greenway corridor. <br /> • Natural amenities on site to add interest,variety and character. <br /> • Unsuitable soils exist on site. <br /> • Floodplain may impact park development. <br /> Opportunities <br /> • Athletic complex can serve as neighborhood park for development in the area. <br /> • A large athletic complex is in high demand-land is available. <br /> • Combinaton of well field and athletic complex is opportunity to share land and costs. <br /> • Can build park with lighted fields etc.before residential development occurs. <br /> • Natural amenities like wetlands are present and would add variety and character to park. <br /> • Potential to add to trail system and greenway corridor already established. <br /> • Potential to create large open space complex connected to the center of Hugo. <br /> Issues <br /> • Soils are not suitable for park development. It is feasible to correct soils. <br /> • It is difficult to maintain quality turf in flooding conditions. <br /> • Floodplain alteration and mitigation will need to be accomplished or <br /> • Turf will need to be restored after periodic flooding events. <br /> • Cost benefit of mitigating floodplain vs. cost of periodically reestablishing turf must be <br /> determined. <br /> • Cost of land. <br />
