Gary Meyer,Thanksgiving Lutheran Church, was present to discuss the development of ball
fields at the Church. The church would like to construct either a soccer field or a softball field.
Clearing of some trees, grading and installation of a backstop and benches are required. The
Church requests that the City contribute funds to complete the work. The public would be able
to use the fields.
Discussion concluded that a soccer field would be used only for practice because of the
proposed size and the lack of irrigation. A softball field would be a better choice. The Church
will provide a proposal to the commission describing what they would like to accomplish and
the dollar amount they would like the City to contribute.
2. Dave Guenther,White Bear School District Community Services, was also present at the
meeting. He attended in order to talk about the future needs for athletic fields in the
community and to provide assistance to the Parks Commission. White Bear will bring more
fields on line in the next two years. There will continue to be demand for high quality fields in
Hugo.
