Standards | 5
OVERVIEW
These standards are the recommendations for the design of multi-family development within Hugo.
The standards within this guide are vital for achieving the City’s goals. The primary purpose of
these standards is to set basic parameters, describe preferences and illustrate design intent. These
guidelines serve as principles within which creative design can and should occur – there is no one
solution, but many options that meet the basic requirements of this document. The standards are
presented to help guide development and allow for individual creativity when designing a project
within Hugo.
The City of Hugo does not have a historic architectural character for residential homes, although
architectural standards have been adopted for certain PUD developments. New developments must
meet the zoning and building code requirements regarding materials and construction methods
allowed. New development site and building design should provide a visual cue that you are in Hugo.
The use of regional building materials and native plants for development is encouraged.
Definitions
The multi-family design guidelines will differentiate between types of housing units and styles. Using
the definitions found in Chapter 90 of the Hugo City Code, multi-family includes both townhouses
and apartments. The key difference between the two is private vs. shared exterior entrances.
STANDARDS
