Site Planning | 14
STREET DESIGN
Streets should be designed to slow neighborhood
traffic and create a sense of place. The City street
grid is a vital to overall safety and transportation
function in the City, so restoring street connections
that connect to the existing street grid is
encouraged. Disconnected streets and cul-de-sacs
are discouraged.
Pedestrian safety should be a priority when designing
public streets. Enhancements to safety, including
crosswalks, narrowed intersections, lighting, planted
center medians, and landscaped boulevards that
include street trees are encouraged.
Streets should also be designed with snow storage
in mind. Plans should identify snow storage areas
and snow removal plans. Cul-de-sac islands are
encouraged for snow storage. However, plant
materials in the cul-de sac islands must be carefully
chosen to ensure healthy growth and longevity. Cul-
de-sac islands should be irrigated.
PORCHES
STREET
LIGHTING
STREET
TREES
FRONT YARDS
BUILDING
LINE
Example Street Design Elements
Streets should be comfortable for all user types, promoting safe speeds visibility
