Site Planning | 20
SUSTAINABILITY COMMUNITIES
Community design impacts the health of all
those who live, work, worship, play, learn, or
travel in Hugo. Creative design should promote
safety, beauty, community health, and social
development. This includes public green spaces,
trails and paths, access to food options, and many
other things. These things are known to promote
healthier lifestyles and better use of the land for
long-term development.
In addition, green practices during building, such
as alternative energy systems, stormwater reuse,
greywater reuse, and other sustainable practices,
should be pursued to reduce the required
resources for development and the long-term
impacts on Hugo.
HEALTHY DESIGN
Sidewalks, trails, bike lanes, and parks are some
improvements that promote healthy living and
give people options to get around outside vehicle
use. These facilities also create safer routes for
people to access Hugo’s other commercial, social,
or civic uses. More people will access the site
in multi-family developments than single-family
developments on parcels of the same size, which
promotes commercial development nearby.
Ensuring the design provides safe and connected
amenities for residents and visitors will promote
healthy lifestyles and choices.
Electric vehicle charging infrastructure should be
provided for all new multi-family structures.
Landscaping, paths or trails and other amenities promote a healthy community
Natural spaces enhance livability and the overall feel of a development
