<br />;DINANCE OF THE CITY OF
<br />HUGO, WASHINGTON COUNTY,
<br />MINNESOTA, REPEALING EXISTING
<br />CHAPTER 278, "STREET NAMES,"
<br />AND REPLACING IT WITH THE
<br />FOLLOWING:
<br />THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
<br />HUGO, WASHINGTON COUNTY,
<br />MINNESOTA, DOES HEREBY ORDAIN
<br />AS FOLLOWS:
<br />WHEREAS, the City of Hugo for
<br />many years has used the "Uniform Street
<br />Naming and Property Number System for
<br />Washington County, Minnesota;' as con-
<br />tained in Chapter 278 of the Hugo City
<br />Code; and,
<br />WHEREAS, the City is desirous of
<br />achieving additional flexibility in the nam-
<br />ing of streets while still maintaining a
<br />coherent and uniform system of naming
<br />and numbering streets and properties
<br />within the City.
<br />NOW, THEREFORE, it is hereby
<br />ordained as follows:
<br />Section 1. The existing Chapter 278
<br />of the Hugo City Code, Sections 278-1,
<br />278-2 and 278-3, is repealed in its entire-
<br />ty and replaced with the following:
<br />Section 2. Administration. The
<br />Building Official is responsible for main-
<br />taining the uniform naming and number-
<br />ing system provided for in this Ordinance,
<br />and the performance of this responsibility
<br />shall be guided by the provisions of this
<br />Ordinance. Assignment of street names
<br />and building numbers by the Building
<br />Official shall be final. The Building Official
<br />may assign additional names or numbers
<br />in accordance with the Washington
<br />County Uniform System whenever prop-
<br />erty has been subdivided, a new front
<br />entrance opened, or undue hardship has
<br />been worked on any property owner.
<br />Section 3. Assigning of Names.
<br />A. The developer, builder or owner's
<br />representative at the time of submitting a
<br />preliminary plat or plan shall submit a
<br />street naming plan for review by the
<br />Building Official and the City Staff. Such
<br />plan shall be reviewed, approved and
<br />modified by the Building Official and City
<br />Staff not more than sixty (60) days after
<br />the approval of the plan or plan by the
<br />City Council, and the assignment of the
<br />names and numbers by the Building
<br />Official shall be final.
<br />B. City streets shall not be required to
<br />fall into any pattern of alphabetical
<br />sequence.
<br />C. Major emphasis shall be given to
<br />avoiding duplicate and similar sounding
<br />names, and to attempt, if possible, to
<br />maintain a common theme, i.e., names of
<br />states, flowers, presidents, etc., within a
<br />proposed development which is not simi-
<br />lar to other existing developments.
<br />D. The Washington County Uniform
<br />Street Naming and Property Number
<br />System (the "Uniform Policy") is adopted
<br />for use in the City of Hugo as provided
<br />herein.
<br />E. All suffix names presently existing
<br />shall be retained, and all future develop-
<br />ments, east and west streets will be
<br />Streets, and north and south streets will
<br />be Avenues. All other streets shall be
<br />consistent with the Uniform Policy.
<br />F. Existing street names shall be
<br />extended where practical.
<br />G. Streets running northeast to south-
<br />west are called boulevards.
<br />H. Streets running northwest to
<br />southeast are called roads.
<br />I. Meandering streets, cul-de-sacs
<br />and other miscellaneous streets are
<br />named in accordance with the attached
<br />chart
