8 <br /> MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE HUGO CITY COUNCIL <br /> January 18, 1983 <br /> The meeting was called to order by acting Mayor, Charles Schwab, at 7:01 PM. <br /> PRESENT: Schwab, Atkinson, Vail <br /> ABSENT: McAllister <br /> The special meeting was called to interview applicants desiring to fill the current <br /> two (2) year council-at- large vacancy. <br /> ARTHUR POTTS <br /> Mr. Potts, 6620 177th Street, has been a resident of Hugo for 62 years, and stated <br /> that he would like to fill the vacancy because of a genuine concern for the com- <br /> munity. He stated that he had attended a number of council meetings in the past <br /> just to see how they operate. Mr. Potts stated that if the railroad along Highway <br /> 61 was ever abandoned, the right-of-way could possibly be used as an open corridor. <br /> His job would allow for him to attend all meetings when required. <br /> THEODORA PELTIER <br /> Mrs. Peltier was present and reiterated her past years of service to the community. <br /> She was born and raised in Hugo, and feels her experience well qualifies her to fill <br /> the vacancy. Mr. Atkinson asked if she had any reason for wanting the position <br /> other than experience. Mrs. Peltier stated that she had no complaints, but is con- <br /> cerned that the gravel roads are given the attention required. <br /> MYRL PETERSEN <br /> Mr. Petersen, Hugo's postmaster, stated that he has resided in Minneapolis and <br /> Stillwater, and that he has now lived in Hugo for 3 years. He is very interested <br /> in small town living and its quality of life. He would like to see growth within <br /> the community while still retaining a small town setting. He stated that he basi- <br /> cally is interested in seeing Hugo progress <br /> MOTION: Vail made motion, Schwab seconded, to appoint Mrs. Theodora Peltier to fill <br /> the 2 year Council-at-Large vacancy. <br /> VOTING FOR: Vail and Schwab <br /> VOTING AGAINST: Atkinson <br /> Motion Carried. <br /> MOTION: Vail made notion, Schwab seconded, to adjourn at 7:30 PM. <br /> All aye.
