30-4. ANIMAL WARD*. The City Council may appoint <br />an Animal Warden to enforce the provisions of <br />this Ordinance, or may designate that the duties <br />of the Animal Warden will be performed by a named <br />employee of the City of Hugo, and the City Council <br />may require that any person serving as Animal Warden <br />be bonded to secure the safe handling of any funds <br />or fees as herein required. <br />30-5. OBSERVATION OF DOG AFTER BITING. Any person know- <br />ing of a case of a human being bitten by a dog shall <br />immediately notify the dog warden or police, who <br />shall then order said dog impounded and quarantined <br />for.a period of fourteen (14) days, at the expense <br />of the owner. If the owner has adequate facilities, <br />the dog warden or police may allow the owner of the <br />dog to impound it in said facilities. <br />30-6. IMPOUNDMENT: Dogs found running at large or creating <br />a nuisance as defined, herein, shall be taken up by <br />the animal warden and impounded in a humane manner <br />in shelter designated as the City animal shelter. <br />Impounded dogs may be claimed by the owner within a <br />five (5) day period by payment of impounded fees. <br />After five (5) days all unclaimed animals become the <br />property of the City of Hugo and may be disposed of <br />in a humane manner, sold, or given away. Owners may <br />repurchase their dog after the five (5) days period <br />if their dog is still impounded in the animal shelter <br />by payment of impounding fees. <br />Immediately upon impounding dogs or other animals, <br />the Animal Warden shall make a reasonable effort to <br />notify the owners of such dogs so impounded and <br />inform such owners of the conditions whereby they <br />may regain custody of such animals. Failure of notice <br />shall not alter the rights or duties of the City, or <br />the provisions of this Ordinance. <br />30-7. IMPOUNDMENT FEE: Any animal impounded hereunder may <br />be reclaimed as herein provided upon payment by <br />the owner to the City of Hugo the sum of ten dollars <br />($10.00) for each dog, and the additional sum of <br />four dollars ($4.00) for each day such dog is <br />impounded. <br />30-8. FEE HANDLING. All impoundment fees shall be paid <br />to and collected by the Animal Warden if the City <br />Council has acted to appoint an Animal Warden, or by <br />the City Clerk if no Animal Warden has been appointed. <br />Every person collecting fees under this Ordinance shall <br />render an account thereof to the City at least monthly <br />and shall turn over to the City all funds collected to <br />the date of the account. <br />
