Parks Commission Meeting 7-11-01 <br />Page 2 of 2 <br />the future. Future development to the south will provide land that will be more suitable for a neighborhood <br />park. <br />III. Block Parties — A block parry will be organized for Sweet Grass Meadows. Kitty Cheesebrow, a <br />resident in the neighborhood will coordinate the party. She has already developed some ideas and <br />with the help of other neighbors will select a date in early September. A block party will also be held <br />in the Beaver Ponds neighborhood on August 18. Coordination with the Park Commission and the <br />Lions Club will occur once all dates are finalized. <br />IV. CIP Plan - The plan is still in draft form. Staff has projected expenditures for the next 20 years and <br />will continue to revise the draft plan. The park fund, based on the current draft, will stay balanced <br />over the next 20 years. Updates on the CIP plan will continue to be provided. <br />V. Grants — The City received official notice from the DNR that they have received a $305,000 grant <br />to purchase the Bernin Property. Staff will go to Council on July 16 for authorization to enter into a <br />purchase agreement with Mr. Bemin and to accept the grant from the DNR. Council will also review <br />the request to install an aerator in Oneka Lake. If they agree to the aerator Council will be asked to <br />authorize staff to prepare a grant application to the DNR for the aerator. <br />VI. Comprehensive Plan — The Metropolitan Council requires that The Park Comprehensive Master <br />Plan be updated every ten years. This will need to be completed by 2008. However the Park <br />Commission feels that they could begin the process of identifying issues and concerns that need to be <br />addressed. The will hold a special meeting in October to begin thi9s discussion. <br />VII. Council Update — One house was purchased on Egg Lake with park funds. The dollars will be <br />returned to the park fund if this land is not used for park purposes. <br />VIII. Updates — Victor Gardens preliminary plat was approved by the Planning Commission. Victor <br />Gardens will return to the Parks Commission in August with more details of the park proposal. <br />Planning Commission recommended that the Bramsted project be denied. The developer has asked <br />that the City Council table the proposal. <br />This is an interpretation of the events that happened at the meeting.
