Minutes <br />Hugo, Minnesota Parks and Recreation Open Space Commission Meeting <br />May 12, 2004 <br />7:00 p.m. <br />Oneka Room — City Hall <br />Meeting Chair: Kitty Cheesebrow <br />Minutes By: Chris Petree <br />Present: Parks Commission: Kitty Cheesebrow, Roger Clarke, Pete Pederson, Steven <br />Lacher and Tom Weidt. <br />Planning Commission: Kelly Bailly. <br />Staff Chris Petree. <br />Absent: Jim Keithahn and Jennifer May. <br />I. Approve Minutes from April 14, 2004 meeting <br />Weidt made a motion, Clarke seconded, to accept the Minutes from the April 14, 2004 <br />Parks Commission Meeting. <br />All Aye. Motion Carried. <br />II. Oakshore Park Property Update <br />Public Works Director Petree gave an update on the acquisition of the Oak Shore Park — <br />Park Property. Park Commissioner Pederson asked that City staff request the appraisal <br />from the Oak Shore Park Board of Directors. Park Commissioner Pederson also suggested <br />that the City contract with Landscape Architect Laurie McRostie to draft a concept plan for <br />the park. Park Commissioner Lacher questioned the City's need for a park in that area <br />and asked if demographics for the area could be taken into account if a concept plan was <br />drafted. <br />Weidt made a motion, Clarke seconded, to contract with Landscape Architect Laurie <br />McRostie to provide a concept plan for the Oakshore Park — Park Property. <br />All Aye. Motion Carried. <br />III. Park Naming Guidelines <br />Public Works Director Petree provided the Park Commission with a sample naming policy <br />from another municipality. Park Commission members concurred that they liked the policy <br />and would only like to add a few specific items as follows: Only new parks may not be <br />named after civic organizations, existing park names are grandfathered in and the Park <br />Commission must approve all public/City owned park names. <br />Pederson made a motion, Weidt seconded, to approve the Park Naming Policy with the <br />Page 1 <br />
