Minutes Hugo, Minnesota Parks and Recreation Open Space Commission Meeting May 12, 2004 7:00 p.m. Oneka Room — City Hall Meeting Chair: Kitty Cheesebrow Minutes By: Chris Petree Present: Parks Commission: Kitty Cheesebrow, Roger Clarke, Pete Pederson, Steven Lacher and Tom Weidt. Planning Commission: Kelly Bailly. Staff Chris Petree. Absent: Jim Keithahn and Jennifer May. I. Approve Minutes from April 14, 2004 meeting Weidt made a motion, Clarke seconded, to accept the Minutes from the April 14, 2004 Parks Commission Meeting. All Aye. Motion Carried. II. Oakshore Park Property Update Public Works Director Petree gave an update on the acquisition of the Oak Shore Park — Park Property. Park Commissioner Pederson asked that City staff request the appraisal from the Oak Shore Park Board of Directors. Park Commissioner Pederson also suggested that the City contract with Landscape Architect Laurie McRostie to draft a concept plan for the park. Park Commissioner Lacher questioned the City's need for a park in that area and asked if demographics for the area could be taken into account if a concept plan was drafted. Weidt made a motion, Clarke seconded, to contract with Landscape Architect Laurie McRostie to provide a concept plan for the Oakshore Park — Park Property. All Aye. Motion Carried. III. Park Naming Guidelines Public Works Director Petree provided the Park Commission with a sample naming policy from another municipality. Park Commission members concurred that they liked the policy and would only like to add a few specific items as follows: Only new parks may not be named after civic organizations, existing park names are grandfathered in and the Park Commission must approve all public/City owned park names. Pederson made a motion, Weidt seconded, to approve the Park Naming Policy with the Page 1
