Hugo, Minnesota Parks and Recreation Open Space Commission Minutes
October 13, 2004
Page 2
remain under consideration. The first site is on the 100 acre Creekview Park and the second site is
in the Bald Eagle Industrial Park. Adam Gordon, Project Manager for the MCES, was on hand to
discuss the two sites. The MCES officials favor the Industrial Park site for many reasons including:
availability, land use and ease of construction. The Park Commission discussed both sites and did
not have a strong opinion of what site would be the best location. However, many Commission
members did stress that they were concerned about the possible tree removal that would need to
take place on the park site if these tanks were constructed there and if there would ever be a spill
from the tanks the Commission members voiced their concerns about contamination of the
surrounding wetlands and creek. Staff informed the Park Commission that the MCES would be
presenting this information to the City Council on Monday, October 18, 2004 for continued
discussion and that the comments made by the Park Commission would be shared with the City
Council.
IV. Beaver Ponds Park Landscaping Plan
Public Works Director Chris Petree provided an overview of the landscaping plan that was prepared
by Landscape Architect Laurie McRostie. The plan includes 85 trees and 24 shrubs. The estimated
cost to complete the landscaping plan is $15,000. The Park Commission discussed the plan and
liked the design with the exception of 3 trees that they would like removed between the soccer field
and play structure to increase visibility.
Lacher made a motion, Weidt seconded, to accept the Beaver Ponds Park Landscaping Plan with the
removal of the three trees between the soccer field and play structure.
All Aye.
