Minutes <br />City of Hugo <br />Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting <br />May 11, 2005 <br />7:00 p.m. <br />Council Chambers — City Hall <br />Meeting Chair: Kitty Cheesebrow <br />Minutes By: Chris Petree <br />Present: Parks Commission: Kitty Cheesebrow, Pete Pedersen, Roger Clarke, Charles Kirk, <br />Dan Gabrielli and Steven Lacher. <br />Planning Commission: Kelly Bailly. <br />Staff. Chris Petree, Public Works Director. <br />Absent: Jennifer May <br />I. Approve Minutes From April 13, 2005 Meeting <br />Lacher made a motion, Kirk seconded to approve the minutes from the April 13, 2005 meeting. <br />All Aye. Motion Carried. <br />II. Introduction of new Parks Commission Members <br />New Parks Commission members Charles Kirk and Dan Gabrielli introduced themselves and <br />gave an overview of their background. <br />III. Review/Comment on Victor Gardens East park proposal <br />Dave Hemple from CPDC, discussed the proposed park in Victor Gardens East. The <br />preliminary park design includes: irrigation & sod on the entire site, plantings of numerous <br />trees & shrubs, 10 -stall parking lot, park gazebo, practice soccer field/open space, play <br />structure, basketball court and benches, picnic table, trash receptacles & drinking fountain. <br />Mr. Hemple will work with City staff to have the approved park signage installed at the park as <br />well. Mr. Hemple also requested that the Parks Commission name the park Val Jean Park <br />because of its location on Val Jean Blvd. and the theme in Victor Gardens. Parks Commission <br />Chair Kitty Cheesebrow asked that a tennis court be considered where the basketball court is <br />located and that the developer present other playground vendors that have low maintenance <br />play equipment similar to what the City has installed on the last two parks. <br />Pedersen made a motion, Clarke seconded to accept Val Jean Park as the name for the new <br />park in Victor Gardens East. <br />All Aye. Motion Carried. <br />Pedersen made a motion, Cheesebrow seconded to approve the preliminary plan for Val Jean <br />park with the stipulation that the developer will report back to the Parks Commission on the <br />possibility of a tennis court and the brand/style of the play structure. <br />Page 1 <br />
