Hugo, Minnesota Parks and Recreation Open Space Commission Minutes <br />March 8, 2006 <br />Page 2 <br />has conducted on local skate parks for the skate park committee he serves on for the White Bear <br />School District. The Parks Commission and City Council had a significant discussion on skate <br />parks following Parks Commissioner Clarke's presentation. The Parks Commission and City <br />Council decided to continue working with the White Bear School District on the skate park <br />committee and to give consideration for construction of a skate park in future park projects. <br />VI. Review Concept Plan for Shelter at Beaver Ponds Park <br />Landscape Architect Laurie McRostie provided a concept plan for the park shelter at Beaver <br />Ponds Park. The plan shows the shelter to the S.W. of the play equipment at the park and just <br />west of the parking lot. The structure would be similar in design and construction to the Oneka <br />Lake Park shelter only four feet larger. <br />May made a motion, Pedersen seconded, to approve the concept plan for the park shelter at <br />Beaver Ponds Park. <br />All Aye. Motion Carried. <br />VII. Discuss Portable Restroom Structure Design <br />Public Works Director Chris Petree provided a Power Point presentation of portable restroom <br />structures that are located in other communities. The Parks Commission and City Council <br />discussed many options including: style/construction of a structure, vegetative screening, <br />handicap accessible portable restrooms and renting portable restrooms with more earth -tone <br />colors. <br />Pedersen made a motion, Clarke seconded, to direct staff to rent earth -tone handicap accessible <br />portable restrooms for 2006 that can be securely anchored to a concrete pad or other structure <br />and work with Landscape Architect Laurie McRostie to design a vegetative screening plan for <br />portable restrooms that is site specific to each park. <br />All Aye. Motion Carried. <br />VIII. Discuss Future Park Projects and Funding <br />The Parks Commission and City Council discussed its 2006 City Focus Goals that includes <br />identifying funding for the Rice Lake Park and Ballfield Complex by September 1, 2006. Also <br />discussed was the possibility of a community center. Staff was directed to re -convene the Park <br />Dedication Fund Subcommittee to prioritize projects and identify funding sources. <br />IX. Adjourn: Meeting adjourned at 10:00 p.m. <br />
