Hugo, Minnesota Parks and Recreation Open Space Commission Minutes <br />May 10, 2006 <br />Page 2 <br />May made a motion, Pedersen seconded, to select MN/WI playground for the 2-12 play <br />structure and swings in the river color palette in an amount not to exceed $75,000. <br />All Aye. Motion Carried. <br />May made a motion, Gabrielli seconded, to select St. Croix Recreation to furnish the teen <br />play area and to include a version of the Galaxy Asterope and Biggo Solo Swing in an <br />amount not to exceed $35,000. Furthermore, colors of the teen area and picnic shelter <br />should match the color scheme of the 2-12 play structure whenever possible. <br />All Aye. Motion Carried. <br />III. Oneka Elementary School Playground <br />The Parks Commission considered a request from Hugo/Oneka Elementary Principal Terry <br />Dahlem for assistance in funding the playground at Oneka Elementary School. They have <br />selected playground equipment from St. Croix Recreation at a total cost of $107,000. The <br />school district is contributing $50,000 towards the project and the PTA has raised nearly $20,000 <br />so far, leaving a $37,000 shortfall. The Parks Commission discussed the value of this <br />playground equipment for the surrounding neighborhoods and the benefit to the community. <br />Pedersen made a motion, May seconded, to donate $37,000 to the Hugo/Oneka Elementary <br />PTA to be used for the construction of the playground equipment at Oneka Elementary School. <br />All Aye. Motion Carried. <br />IV. Review Portable Restroom Screening <br />Landscape Architect Laurie McRostie was present to discuss screening options for portable <br />restrooms at Oneka Lake Park and Beaver Ponds Park. Both sites include extensive screening <br />with plant materials. <br />Pedersen made a motion, Clarke seconded, to accept the proposed layout & screening plan for <br />the portable restroom at Oneka Lake Park. <br />All Aye. Motion Carried. <br />Cheesebrow made a motion, Pedersen seconded, to accept option #2 at Beaver Ponds Park for <br />the portable restroom screening plan. <br />All Aye. Motion Carried. <br />V. Parks Projects Funding Committee Update <br />Tabled until the June 14, 2006 Parks Commission Meeting. <br />VI. 2006 Parks Project Update <br />Tabled until the June 14, 2006 Parks Commission Meeting. <br />
