Skate Park Committee Update (Roger Clarke) Parks Commissioner Clarke provided an update on the latest developments with the skate park committee. The committee has decided that the best location for the skate park would be at Podvin Park in White Bear Lake. The committee has also directed the youth that have been participating on the committee to form a club to help manage, maintain and raise funds for the skate park. V. Washington County — Open Space Funding Referendum Cordelia Pierson with The Trust for Public Land was present at the meeting and provided the Parks Commission with an overview of the Washington County Open Space Funding Referendum that will be on the November 7, 2006 ballot. The purpose of the referendum is to improve water quality, improve drinking water and to conserve property that is adjacent to rivers, lakes and streams. It was noted that Hugo has been identified as one of only six communities with the unique combination of greater than 3% population growth and 50% unprotected natural resources. The referendum is for $20 million over 10 years and will cost the average tax payer $25.88/year. The Parks Commission discussed the need for preservation and protection of the City's natural resources, and asked how the funds would be allotted to individual communities like Hugo if approved. VI. Parks Commission Tour July 12, 2006 For the last few years the Parks Commission has taken a tour in July to review the park projects for that year and identify future projects and needs. In light of the recent City Bus Tour taken by the City Council and all Commissions, the Parks Commission decided that it would be beneficial to take the tour later this fall to see the progress on current park projects. Staff will work on scheduling the tour in September or October 2006. VII. Other: Public Works Director Chris Petree informed the Parks Commission that representatives from the WBL ISD #624 Community Services and Recreation Department would be at the August 9, 2006 meeting to discuss community and recreational programming opportunities for residents of Hugo.
