Minutes City of Hugo Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting January 10, 2007 7:00 p.m. Council Chambers — City Hall Meeting Chair: Roger Clarke Minutes By: Chris Petree Present: Parks Commission: Roger Clarke, Pete Pedersen, Jennifer May and Dan Gabrielli. Parks Commission -Elect: Melissa Parker and Russ Schmidt Staff Chris Petree, Public Works Director. Absent: Rachel Berger Approve Minutes From December 13, 2006 Meeting Pedersen made a motion, May seconded, to approve the minutes from the December 13, 2006 Parks Commission meeting. All Aye. Motion Carried. Introduce new Parks Commissioners Melissa Parker and Russ Schmidt Parks Commission Chair Roger Clarke introduced the new Parks Commissioners Melissa Parker and Russ Schmidt. The City Council is expected to officially appoint Melissa Parker and Russ Schmidt to the Parks Commission on Tuesday, January 16, 2007. Both Melissa and Russ were in attendance at the meeting and had a chance to introduce themselves to the other Park Commissioners. III. Oneka Elementary Gymnasium Programming Public Works Director Chris Petree provided an update on the programming at the Oneka Elementary Gymnasium. • Adult Volleyball: The deadline for registration has been extended to allow more teams to register. A minimum of four teams are required to run the league. • Tot Time: Tot Time is scheduled to begin Tuesday, January 16, 2007. All the equipment is in and has been setup at the Gym. The City and the school district are working together to promote this program. IV. Update on Withrow Elementary Playground Improvements Following the Parks Commissions recommendation at the December Parks Commission meeting the City Council approved a donation of $8700 to the Withrow Elementary Association (WEA) for playground improvements. Work is scheduled to begin on the playground this spring. Page 1
