Hugo, Minnesota Parks and Recreation Open Space Commission Minutes <br />August 8, 2007 <br />Page 2 <br />Consulting Planner Kendra Lindahl spoke with the Parks Commission regarding how critical it <br />was for the Commission to give their input on The Comprehensive Plan and update the Parks <br />Plan. City Staff will work closely with the Commission regarding community and <br />neighborhood parks, along with various trails. City Staff will also be working with other cities <br />and Washington County to have the correct connections between the trails from Hugo to <br />outside trails. They will discuss this at the Planning Commission meeting on August 23rd <br />then to have it back to the Parks Commission as a draft for the September 12th meeting. A <br />number of areas were discussed between the Commission, Lindahl, Bear and Petree. City <br />Staff will be looking at places best fit for preservation, when locating parks. They spoke of <br />considering sport changes, when looking at different types of parks. (ex: Ultimate Frisbee, <br />Lacrosse, etc.) <br />IV. 2008 Parks Budget & C.I.P. <br />The 2008 Parks Budget & C.I.P. was discussed. Oakshore Park and Rice Lake Park are <br />priorities for 2008. The Parks Commission also discussed improvements at other parks <br />which included Arbre Park, Heritage Ponds Park, Lions Park and the Bernin property. City <br />Staff will work to include this into a 5 year C.I.P. <br />V. Update on Dog Ordinance <br />A revision to the dog ordinance will be drafted and presented to the City Council at their <br />August 20th meeting, requiring that all dogs be leashed while at active City Parks. Assuming <br />the City Council amends this ordinance, an update will be provided to the Public in the in the <br />Fall newsletter. <br />VI. Oneka Elementary Gym — 2007/2008 Schedule <br />City and School District Staff are working together to expand the programs at the Oneka <br />Elementary Gymnasium. The tot time program will be expanded to allow children up to 5th <br />grade to participate. Adult recreation opportunities will be expanded to include Open Gym, <br />Yoga, Tai Chi and Adult Volleyball. An update will be in the City Newsletter this Fall. <br />VII.
