MINUTES <br />HUGO BOARD OF ADJUSTMENTS AND APPEALS <br />OCTOBER 14, 2004 <br />Chairperson Schumann called the meeting to order at 6:37 p.m. <br />PRESENT: Brunotte, Schumann <br />ABSENT: Puleo <br />ALSO PRESENT: Bryan Bear, Community Development Director (CDD) <br />Michele Lindau, Secretary <br />Minutes September 9, 2004 <br />Schumann made motion, Brunotte seconded, to recommend approval of the minutes of September 9, <br />2004 as submitted. <br />All Ayes. Motion carried. <br />Hankee Variance for Garage <br />The Board considered the application of Diane and Mike Hankee, 5995 138th Street North, for a <br />variance to allow an attached garage to be constructed eight feet from the side property line <br />where ten feet is required by ordinance. <br />The CDD explained that the applicant had an existing attached two -car garage on an 80 -foot <br />wide lot. The applicant was requesting to add a third stall to the garage. The existing house is <br />setback 21 feet from the east property line. The 13 -foot wide garage addition would reduce the <br />side setback to eight feet where ten feet is required. <br />The Board had received a letter from the adjacent property owner stating their concerns about the <br />drainage onto their property. <br />Mike Hankee, applicant, stated that he had spoke to their neighbor and was aware of their <br />concerns. Hankee pointed out that the structure would not be encroaching into the drainage <br />easement. Hankee said the addition would be for the storage of a boat but would like to <br />construct it big enough to accommodate a car. <br />Diane Hankee, applicant, said the existing garage was constructed with two feet between the <br />edge of the home and the garage door, and would like to put two feet on the other side as well to <br />keep it proportional. She said she would not be setting precedence because other homes in the <br />
