Charter Commission <br /> February 19, 1998 <br /> Page 1 <br /> CITY OF LINO LAKES <br /> CHARTER COMMISSION <br /> DATE : February 19, 1998 <br /> TIME STARTED : 8:16 P.M. <br /> TIME ENDED : 9:34 P.M. <br /> MEMBERS PRESENT : Montain, DeMotts,Dunn,Bernier, Rehbine, Solfest, <br /> Corson, Sullivan, Lane, Trehus, Bening,Dahl, and <br /> Turner <br /> MEMBERS ABSENT : Aldentaler, Kenfield, and Zastrow <br /> STAFF MEMBERS PRESENT : Finance Director Mary Vaske,Interim City <br /> Administrator Dave Pecchia, and City Engineer <br /> Dave Ahrens <br /> CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL <br /> Chair Montain called the special meeting of the Lino Lakes Charter Commission to order at 8:16 <br /> p.m. on January 19, 1998. <br /> Chair Montain pointed out that copies of that portion of the minutes from the January 8, 1998 <br /> Charter Commission meeting containing Mary Vaske's comments were available. <br /> APPEARANCES <br /> Mr. DeMotts introduced Interim City Administrator Pecchia, City Council Member Lyden, and <br /> Mayor Sullivan. <br /> Chair Montain expressed appreciation to the members of the City Council and Staff for taking <br /> the time to attend this meeting. <br /> ROAD RECONSTRUCTION <br /> How Charter Worked, 1997 - Mayor Sullivan expressed her desire to know the Charter <br /> Commission's sentiments in this regard. Chair Montain explained that the Commission was very <br /> pleased and surprised with the overwhelming election turnout, and that the Charter had been <br /> effective. He added that there may be a need to simplify some of the wording of the Charter, but <br /> that no change is needed with regard to its meaning. <br /> Mayor Sullivan asked if there were any extenuating circumstances present in this case resulting <br /> in success that might not be present in the event of future road issues. Chair Montain mentioned <br /> utilities as a clouding issue, he also indicated concern that additional education of the public <br /> might be necessary for them to fully understand the need for their endorsement of these projects. <br /> 1 <br />
