1 <br />1 <br />August 16, 1974 <br />The special meeting of the Lino Lakes City Council was called to order at <br />7:45 p.m. on August 16, 1974 by Mayor Bohjanen. Councilmen present; Jaworski, <br />Marier, Zelinka. Absent; McLean. Mr. Locher was also present. <br />This meeting had been conveie d to discuss the position of Supervisor with Mr. <br />Adolph Peters of Newport. He had been recommended by the Personnel Commission. <br />Mr. Zelinka said the question of salary must be resolved. At the present time, <br />Mr. Peters is employed bt the MSB and is receiving $5.83 p/h. This computes <br />to approximately $1000.00 p /,. The original recommendation from the Personnel <br />Commission was that the salary be in the 10,000 to 12,000 per year range. <br />Mr. Peters qualifications was discussed. He has a Class C license in both <br />water and sewer and a Class A drivers license. <br />Mr. Marier asked Mr. Peters what he was asking for as a salary. <br />Mr. Peters felt that considering all things that he would need at least <br />$12,000.00 p/m to make the move. He said that he has not missed a day of <br />work in he couldn't remember when. He has 720 hours of accumulated sick leave <br />and 110 hours of accumulated vacation time. He has never been late for work. <br />Mr. Marier asked Mr. Peters why he had left the City of Newport to work for MSB. <br />Mr. Peters said that the MSB took over the sewage system and anyone employed <br />by the City could go With MSB without losing seniority and he simply went with <br />the system. <br />He was asked what kind of work he performed in the City of Newport and Mr. Peters <br />said that he worked in all departments as needed. This included roads, parks, <br />snow plowing in addition to water and sewer. He agreed that approximately <br />90% of his time was spent in the utility end of the job. <br />Mr. Zelinka asked if he still felt that he could not transfer for the same <br />salary that he is receiving at the present time and Mr. Peters said, yes. <br />Mr. Bohjanen asked how far he would have to drive and what the driving time <br />would be. <br />Mr. Petersthought it was around 31 miles and about 35 to 40 minutes driving time. <br />He definitely plans to move to this area if he obtains the position. He feels <br />that it is necessary he be in the area in case of emergencies. <br />Mr. Peters was questioned as to his feeling on the area of supervising <br />personnel and what he thought was necessary to motivate employees. Mr. Peters <br />did not think he would have any problems in the supervisory position. He <br />felt that if employees are satisfied, cdntented and well paid, there are few <br />if any problems. If an employee is not doing a good job, find out why and take <br />it from there. Mr. Peters also wanted the Council to know that he is a member <br />of AA and has been for the past 17 years. <br />Mr. Jaworski thought that the starting salary for Lino Lakes of over 14,000 <br />was too high. He felt that 12,000 would be more in the range of the City's <br />ability to handle. <br />Mrs. Peters asked about the cost of land and how much they would need to build. <br />She thought that if the cost of building and moving was too high, that they would <br />
