Divine, Barb White (part) <br /> <br />GENERAL/MINUTES <br /> <br />Minutes <br />Minutes for August 28, 2008 were approved. <br /> <br />Charter Amendment Communications <br /> <br />Members again expressed a desire to support a charter change and to have their voices heard as a <br />group. Several members of EDAC met with Chris Deets, the communication consultant hired by <br />the city council to handle information regarding the proposed charter amendment. Members <br />reviewed an article proposed by Mr. Deets to include in a special newsletter. After discussion, an <br />outline of changes to the article included: <br /> <br />• Showing that this proposed change is consistent with goals and policies in the 20/30 <br />Vision Plan and draft Comprehensive Transportation Plan. <br />• Showing the proposed change is consistent with EDAC’s objectives as outlined in the 5- <br />year economic development plan. <br />• The image and functionality of the city is important for economic growth of the city to <br />stabilize the tax base. <br /> <br />It was moved by Mr. Milbauer and seconded by Mr. Corson to submit a draft of their position <br />points to Mr. Deets after a final review of the position paper with the above points added. Motion <br />passed unanimously. Ms. Divine will send it out to members for review. <br /> <br />Visit Minneapolis North <br /> <br />Barb White, director of sales for the Hampton Inn joined EDAC for discussion of their interest, <br />along with Country Inn & Suites, to participate in Visit Minneapolis North (VMN), a visitors and <br />convention bureau. Ms. Divine explained that member pay a lodging tax which the city <br />administers. This money goes to the bureau to fund promotions for participating cities. Ms. <br />Divine handed out a rough draft of marketing materials that will be used to distribute to the <br /> 1
