PROCLAMATIONS AND RECOGNITIONS.
A. Vital Aging Council.

Fire Chief John Malenick stated the Vital Aging Council has been in existence for about three
years. He explained Vital Aging is modeled after the University of Minnesota's Vital Force
organization whose purpose it was to enlist the help of older adults to effect a meaningful change
in the community. Fire Chief Malenick emphasized that was what the Vital Aging Council has
done in St. Anthony.

Fire Chief Malenick explained the Fire Department took on a project to standardize its
equipment, including trucks and hoses. He reported these are now manufactured to the same
specifications as all cities in the area. Fire Chief Malenick reported this left the fire department
with a mix of equipment and hoses that could no longer connect to the old hydrants. He
explained the Fire Department looked for a way to identify the older hydrants needing adaptors.
He stated the decision was to paint all the hydrants that would need the adaptor. He mentioned it
would have taken the fire department two seasons or more to complete this project, but the Vital
Aging Council volunteers took on the project and finished in two weeks. Chief Malenick stated
the group is very motivated and enthusiastic. Chief Malenick read the names of the Vital Aging
Council members who helped with this project. He also recognized Firefighter Ryan Antilla for
organizing the group, identifying the hydrants needing painting, and acquiring the supplies
needed for the project.

Police Chief John Ohl also recognized the Vital Aging Council for its work in the community.
He mentioned it began as a grassroots organization to tap the experience, expertise, and energy
