MINUTES ~ ~) <br />REGULAR CITX COUNCIL MEETING <br />MAY 27, 1981 <br />PAGE 3 <br />of the Metropolitan Waste Control Commission for additional information. <br />Motion carried unanimously. <br />Mayor Warkentien opened a discussion on the neighborhood policing meet- POLICING <br />ing_which was"held recently following a series of robberies in the DISCUSSION <br />northeast quadrant of the City. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Jackson, 1870 N. <br />Snelling, Mary Duddleston, 1840 Asbury, and Carol Dashiell, 1861 Asbury, <br />concerned residents, were in attendance for inuut. It was explained <br />ghat the purpose of•-the neighborhood meeting was to discuss the recent <br />robberies. Sgt. Fowler of the Sheriff's Department attended the meet- <br />ing and informed the residents of methods to employ for prevention of <br />burglaries. <br />Mrs. Dashiell informed that she was quite disturbed with the policing <br />service as she had, on two occasions, requested (through the dispatcher) <br />that a deputy check on suspicious cars and the deputy did not respond. <br />A lengthy discussion ensued regarding problems with the dispatchers and <br />the lack of police protection during shift changes. <br />Mayor Warkentien explained that he and the Clerk Administrator had met <br />with Captain Spencer of the Sheriff's Department regarding policing <br />problems and made him aware of the City's concerns. Clerk Administrator <br />Barnes informed that there is a committee made up of the mayors of all <br />cities contracting with the Sheriff's Department, the purpose of which <br />is to study policing services. Mayor Warkentien assured the residents <br />that the matter will be investigated further. <br />Albert Yonas, 1596 Vincent, addressed Council requesting that the City ALBERT YONAS <br />place more trees on the boulevard in front of his home where several 1596 VINCENT <br />. diseased elm trees have been removed. The City had placed one tree REQUEST FOR <br />and Mr. Yonan desired at least two additional trees. After a dis- BOULEVARD <br />cussion Councilmember Eggert moved, seconded by Councilmember Larson, TREES <br />that two or three trees be placed on the boulevard providing they can GRANTED <br />be placed without interfering with underground utilities. Motion <br />carried unanimously. <br />Mr. Yonas also inquired as to who is responsibile for mowing the grass <br />on the triangular shaped pieces of land in the street by his residence. <br />The Clerk Administrator was directed to check into the matter. <br />Clerk Administrator Barnes presented for Council's consideration a SERVICE <br />maintenance agreement on the Lanier Dictation Equipment at a cost AGREEMENT ON <br />of $137.20 per year. Mayor Warkentien moved, seconded by Council- LAMER EQUIP- <br />member Brown, that the City enter into a maintenance agreement with MENT APPROVEL <br />Wahl & Wahl, Inc. for maintenance of the Lanier Equipment at a cost <br />of $137.20 per year. Motion carried unanimously. <br />Clerk Administrator Barnes informed Council that all necessary WINE LICENSE <br />information has been obtained for the renewal of the Wine License FOR SAAKEY'S <br />for Shakey's Pizza. Councilmember Steele moved, seconded by Council- PIZZA <br />member Brown that the Wine License for Northstar Pizza dba/Shakey's RENEWED <br />Pizza Parlor be renewed for the period from July 1, 1981 to June 30, <br />1982. Motion carried unanimously. <br />The discussion of salaries for Councilmembers was deferred until June COUNCIL <br />10, 1981 SALARIES <br />DEFERRED <br />
