MINUTES !~ <br />REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br />JUNE 24, 1981 <br />PAGE 2 <br />Also discussed was the lack of street lighting on Larpenteur and Fairview STREET LIGHT <br />Avenues. The Clerk Administrator informed that Northern States Power had (cont.) <br />recently notified him that the two poles on Fairview and the light stand- <br />ards on the unlighted Larpenteur poles had been removed since they had <br />not been in use for some time. No action was taken. <br />Clerk Administrator Barnes informed Council that Northwestern Bell N.W. BELL <br />Telephone Company has requested permission to bury telephone cable on REQUEST TO <br />Garden Avenue between Arona and Simpson. The Telephone Company has had PLACE CABLE <br />problems with the existing cable and feel it was damaged during the re- UNDERGROUND <br />construction of Garden Avenue. If permission is granted the' Company ON GARDEN AVE <br />will repair any damage to the boulevards. Mayor Warkentien moved, GRANTID <br />seconded by Councilmember Brown, that the request be granted. Upon a <br />vote being taken the following voted in favor thereof: Mayor Warkentien, <br />Councilmembers Brown and Larson, and the following voted against the <br />same: None. Councilmember Steele abstained. Motion carried. <br />Attorney Van DeNorth presented the proposed Raffle Ordinance for con- RAFFLE <br />sideration. Clerk Administrator Barnes inquired as to whether or not ORDINANCE <br />the ordinance could be adopted but not published until after August 1, DEFERRED <br />1981 at which it it will be legal to publish a summary of the ordi- <br />nance. Due to the fact that there would be a savings in publishing <br />after Augustl, and to provide additional time for review of the matter, <br />Councilmember Steele moved, seconded by Councilmember Larson, that further <br />discussion of the ordinance be deferred until the last meeting in July. <br />Motion carried unanimously. <br />Clerk Administrator Barnes presented for Council's consideration an REFERENCES <br />application from Apex Stump Cutters of Durango, Colorado, for a Stump REQUIRED FOR <br />Removal License. Following a discussion Councilmember Steele moved, APEX STUMP <br />seconded by Mayor Warkentien, that the Clerk Administrator obtain CUTTERS <br />references before a license is issued. Motion carried unanimously. <br />Mayor Warkentien presented an application from Falcon Lanes, Inc., FALCON LANES <br />1550 W. Larpenteur, for renewal of the Bottle Club License for the BOTTLE CLUB <br />period from July 1, 1981 to June 30, 1982. Councilmember Larson LICENSE <br />moved, seconded by Councilmember Brown, that Bottle Club License RENEWED <br />4773 be issued to Falcon Lanes, Inc. Motion carried unanimously. <br />Council noted and discussed a letter from Dick Bernard, 1847 Arona, D. BERNARD <br />regarding the law prohibiting sale of tobacco to minors. The Clerk LETTER NOTED <br />Administrator was directed to draft a letter to Mr. Bernard advising RE: SALE OF <br />him of the discussion. TOBACCO TO <br />Clerk Administrator Barnes inquired as to whether "Thank You" letters MINORS <br />should be written to legislators instrumental in passage of the recent THANK YOU TO <br />law providing for negotiations between the City and the State Fair for LEGISLATORS <br />compensation to the City for costs resulting from fair activities. TO BE WRITTEN <br />Council directed the Clerk Administrator to draft such a letter. <br />A discussion followed regarding participation in the forthcoming <br />negotiations with the State Fair. It was decided that Councilmember STEELS, BARNES <br />Steele and Clerk Administrator Barnes be designated as the negotiators REP' HANSON <br />for the City and that Representative Walter Hanson also be invited to TO NEGOTIATE <br />WITH FAIR <br />
