MINUTES 7 8 <br />REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br />JUNE 9, 1982 <br />PAGE 4 <br />Councilmember Larson explained that the request that Falcon Heights dis- ROSEVILLE <br />continue sounding the siren except in case of severe weather was made by REQUEST THAT <br />the Roseville Fire Department to Chief Renchin. Families who were involved CITY DIS- <br />in the 1981 tornado apparently find the sound of the siren traumatic. Chief CONTINUE USE <br />Renchin did feel the siren is helpful when emergency vehicles are exiting OF SIREN <br />from the station as it alerts traffic on Larpenteur. Council briefly EXCEPT IN <br />discussed the fact that a new siren was not included in the plans for the SEVERE <br />new building, but, that it would be possible to budget for a siren at WEATHER <br />some time in the future. <br />Council discussed methods of alleviating the problem of emergency vehicles <br />exiting from the new fire station, such as a switch system which would <br />allow the traffic light at Prior to be controlled from within the building, <br />or an Opticon system. <br />Clerk Administrator Barnes informed Council that he had met with represent- FALSE ALARM <br />atives of other communities contracting with the Sheriff's Department to DISCUSSION <br />discuss the problem of false alarms. Many of the communities indicated <br />experiencing a large number of false alarms (Falcon Heights had a total <br />of 28 in the month of May, 1982). Council discussed possible methods of <br />solution such as charging for repeat false alarms. The Clerk Administrator <br />was directed to pursue the matter with the other communities. <br />Councilmember Chestovich inquired about the placement of a stop or yield DISCUSSION <br />sign at Albert and California as had been discussed at a previous meet- OF STOP/YIELT <br />ing. Engineer Lemberg explained the criteria for placement of signs SIGNS AT <br />and stated that the intersections on Albert (California, Idaho and Iowa) ALBERT & <br />do not warrant signs. He did indicate that if Albert is designated as CALIFORNIA <br />a State Aid Street it would then warrant signs. Some discussion was <br />held regarding previous instructions to research into signing the entire <br />community or, perhaps, only the Northome area. Council requested that <br />the minutes of prior discussions be checked for the exact instructions. <br />Councilmember Chestovich requested that Council note the Roseville SCHOOL <br />School Board Briefs indicating a willingness to allow Falcon Heights PLAYGROUND <br />use of the Elementary School Playgrounds. Mayor Warkentien stated he EQUIPMENT <br />had discussed the matter with Paul Borg of the School District and <br />that a formal agreement will be drawn up. 'Councilmember. Che~fovich <br />inquired about the possiblity of getting an estimated price for purchase of <br />the school playground equipment should the School District decide to sell <br />in the future. Mayor Warkentien stated he felt it should not be approached <br />at this time and Council agreed there would be no use for the equipment <br />without the land. Councilmember Ciernia commented on the fact that <br />Lauderdale has applied for federal funds for park purchase and inquired as <br />to whether or not Falcon Heights should be doing some investigation into <br />the availablity of funds to purchase open space. Council agreed the <br />matter should be investigated and Directed the Clerk Administrator to do so. <br />Councilmember Chestovich drew Council's attention to a recent news JOB CORPS <br />article regarding the change in directors for the Job Corps Center and DISCUSSION <br />asked if there was any fur ther'nformation available. Councilmember <br />Eggert offered to discuss the matter with Todd Lefko, who is the new <br />director. <br />
