<br />i~Ii~NTF.S <br />REGULAR CTTY COUNCIL MEETING <br />MARCx 9, 1983 <br />PAGE 11 <br />Councilmember Larson infcrmed Council thatr'ire Department Iyiember Joe <br />Bianchi had read the pcrtion of the codification regarding the Fire <br />Department and made note of necessary changes. <br />Clerk Administrator Barnes presented bids cn items requested by the <br />Fire Department and the matter was deferred until the I~iarch 23, 1983 <br />meeting in order that a list may be typed show,~ng priorities and cost <br />comparisons. Ccuncil requested that the Fire Department have a member <br />present at the larch 23rd meeting for input. <br />Councilmember Chestovich inquired as to ~:hether ar not Council would <br />object to dropping the Church Youth Group from the list of groups <br />delivering the City Newsletter due to the fact that the Church seems <br />to find it difficult to find enough help to handle delivery. Council <br />did not object. Council then discussed the pcssibility of publishing <br />the Newsletter more frequently, but decided in view of the cost and <br />time involved it would not be practical. <br /> <br />T~Iayor tidarkentien commented on the possible development of the entire <br />block bounded by Crawford on the north, Snelling on the west, Arona <br />cn the east and Larpenteur on the south. He stressed the fact that <br />there would be hard decisions to make if such development is pursued <br />and that decisions would have to be made objectively for the good <br />of all of Falcon heights. If the matter is pursued, the follokri ng <br />items need to be addressed: (l) an agreement with the owner of the <br />Flower City property which is currently for sale, and (2) obtair. <br />a general feeling of tie residents and businesses in the area. <br />Attorney Van de North stated he had talked to Mr. Stillman, okmer <br />of the Flower City property, and there are persons interested in <br />purchasing the property. If any agreement is made delaying the sale <br />of the property, it would be necessary to negotiate a monetary con- <br />sideration. <br />Clerk Administrator Barnes reviewed his efforts to date, such as con- <br />tacting area colleges and businesses to determine the need for a <br />hotel/motel in the area, and contacting developers and motel chains <br />who might be interested. <br />Council discussed concern for the adjacent property owners and the <br />fact that these persons should be made aware of the situation. For <br />that reason, Council scheduled an informational meeting to be held <br />Nia,rch 22, 1983 at 7:00 P.M. and directed the staff to send notices <br />of the meeting to all businesses in the area, and to all residents <br />within 500 feet of the proposed development area. <br />Council approved the proposed letter to several governmental units to <br />determine if there is interest in installing an Opticom system at the <br />time Snelling Avenue is reconstructed. <br />FIRE DEPT. <br />GUNCERNS <br />NEWSLETTEP~ <br />DISCUSSION <br />FLO~1EFt CITY <br />DEVELOPMENT <br />OPTICOM <br />LETTER <br />APPROVED <br />Councilmember Ciernia moved, seconded by Councilmember Eggert, RESOLUTION <br />that i3.esolution 83-7 be adopted.
