HERMES
it be made part of the approval of the conditional use. REQUEST TO
BLACKTOP
Councilmember Ciernia explained that the Planning Commission felt the BOULEVARD
request from N. L. Hermes to blacktop the boulevard along Larpenteur DEFERRED
Avenue of the Falcon Center should be deferred until spring in order
to have input from the Citizens Advisory Committee and, perhaps, some
decision on the development of the Larpenteur/Snelling corner.
Council concurred.
Richard L. Jones, 1841 Arona, requested replacement of an elm tree RICHARD JONES
that was removed in error. The tree inspector advised that the reason 1841 ARONA,
the tree was numbered in his log was because the tree was diseased but REQUEST FOR
was being watched for more visible signs. Inadvertently, the tree REPLACEMENT
was placed on the tree removal list. Mr. Jones indicated that the ON BLVD.
tree should have been inspected again in the spring to determine whether TREES TO BE
or not it needed to be removed and that he had taken special care of DISCUSSED
the tree in order to save the tree. Councilmember Eggert stated that FURTHER AT
the tree had been chemically treated by a neighborhood committee. 8/24/83
After a discussion, Councilmember Eggert directed the Clerk Administrator MEETING
to obtain prices on the various sizes of trees, which will be discussed
at the August 24, 1983 Council meeting. Mayor Warkentien felt better
notification should be made when trees are to be removed.
Mayor Warkentien presented a letter from Sue Ready, 1359 W. Iowa, SUE READY,
requesting permission to barricade Iowa Avenue from Albert to 1359 IOWA,
Hamline on August 18, 1983 from 4:30 to 9:00 P.M. for a block party. BLOCK PARTY
Councilmember Eggert moved, seconded by Councilmember Ciernia, that APPROVED
the request be granted. Motion carried unanimously.
Mayor Warkentien presented a variance request from Tom P. Majerus, T. MAJERUS,
1427 W. Iowa, to construct a garage one foot from the east property 1427 IOWA,
line and along the alley on the alley side. Councilmember Ciernia GARAGE
moved, seconded by Councilmember Eggert, that the request be granted VARIANCE
as recommended by the Planning Commission at their August 8, 1983 APPROVED
meeting. Motion carried unanimously.
Council discussed a request from Paul Baehr, 1746 Holton, to locate
a driveway on the south property line of the vacated walkway. Since
Mr. Baehr did not attend the August 8th Planning Commission meeting,
no action was taken by that body. Mayor Warkentien reviewed the
previous actions and circumstances surrounding determination of
ownership and present use of the property. Councilmember Ciernia
relayed the concerns of the Planning Commission that no hardship
could be demonstrated since a driveway could be installed within
five feet from the property line. After considerable discussion,
Mayor Warkentien offered to contact Mr. Baehr regarding the matter.
Paul Borg, Independent School District 623, was in .attendance and
informed Council that since Lake Owasso School has been sold to
Group W. Cable, the North Suburban Development Achievement Center
(DAC) which had been housed at Lake Owasso, has requested rental
space at the Falcon Heights Elementary. School. Paul Saari, Executive
Director of the North Suburban DAC, reviewed their program, the area
served and its purpose. They presently serve 30 preschool (18 months
to 4 years old) and 72 adults 21 years and older. Program hours will
be Monday through Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.
