MINUTES
REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING _
APRIL 12, 1978
Page 11
just when they completed that down there, about two
years ago I guess, so it wasn't available for you
people, where the Stella Street junction comes in
is 150 feet deep and with costs today its really rough.
If any citizens over in that area have any pictures CLERK ADMINIS-
of flooding in the past years, could we get a copy TRATOR BARNES
or a negative so I can have pictures made. I need
them to support this application. We have to show
them there is a need.
We have a picture here of flooding in the fairgrounds MAYOR WARKENTIEN
a couple years ago and we asked if they had any in
the ponding area on Lindig Street which was quite
extensive. We do have some pictures but could use
some more.
Just so I get something clear, I think this was COUNCILMAN McGOUGH
mentioned by Brad, and one other individual that
there is no one at this table that is pushing for
this, however, I, as an individual am pushing for it
and received my letter as did everyone else.
Mayor Warkentien noted he would very much like to see MAYOR WARKENTIEN
it, but it is a costly project, but this is the time
to do it if we are going to do it at all, cost are
not going to go down.
It is going to come sooner or later and it might COUNCILMAN McGOUGH
as well come sooner, I'm in the construction
business and costs are not going down, again, I as
a private citizen would be paying my fair share of
the cost.
This is an unusual application because we are dealing CLERK ADMINIS-
with four different governmental units, the State TRATOR BARNES
Fairgrounds, the University of Minnesota, ourselves
and Ramsey County. So we really do want the support
of all those units. If we don't have that support,
we may as well forget the project. In answer to a
question raised, we are requesting a letter of in-
tent, we have to have it by the 15th of May, 1978.
Letters from citizens would also be helpful with
pictures, statement and other supportive data.
Councilman Black questioned the University's intent
of participation. Clerk Administrator Barnes noted
he hoped to have positive response before the 26th
of April meeting, otherwise a special meeting would
be required with citizen input. We are trying to
get all the meetings in before the 1st of May, 1978.
The next public hearing is scheduled for 9-:OO p.m.
April 26, 1978.
