tILNUTE S <br />REGULAR CITY COUNCIL T~ETING <br />OCTOBER 11, 1978 <br />Page 3 <br />~~~. <br />Iiayor ti7arkentien opened for discussion the matter of closing two rinks RINK CLOSING <br />for the 1978-1979 winter season, as bras recommended py the Recreation DISCUSSIOTd <br />.Advisory Committee. It was referred back to the Council as the Ree- <br />reaction Advisory Committee had atwo - t~rc vote on which rinks should <br />be closed. (Idaho -Snelling or Falccn Heights Elementary School Rink) <br />Councilmember ~3rown reported the University Grove Rink was suggested <br />to pe closed due to lack of use and also due to the location of Falcon <br />heights Community Park, the Fairgrounds Rink and one located in the <br />Commonwealth area. <br />The tecreation Advisory Committee has discussed this ~:,e~tter with tre <br />University Grove Home Owners Association Recreation Committee and they <br />were not oppos~;c;, ~:~ut would licce to keep the rink open on a volunteer <br />basis. <br />T`Iayor Trdarkentien opened the discussion to the pudic in attendance (65) <br />for their imput as to which other ri«?t might be closed. <br />I~Ir. Kubes wanted to know what costs are involved in opening the two <br />rinks and feels the community is taking a step backward rather than <br />moving ahead. <br />Clerk Administrator .3arnc:~ infow~;,ed ::r. Kupes that the City has <br />already expended over the budget for this year in the amount of <br />$107.00 and the heating and lighting cost for all four rinks amounts <br />to $1,500.00. <br />°4iow was it determined that the two rinks had a lack of use?" <br />"There was not a methodical survey taken, only the observation in <br />tre past few years, which indicated little use." <br />"Are the Recreation Advisory Committee mempers polling their respective <br />areas as to the citizens concerns and if not they should do so." <br />"I am not certain whether the t~ecreation Advisory Committee made a <br />survey of their particular areas or not." <br />"I have asked several people in my area to answer NTr.
