MINUTES ~~j REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING March 11~, 1979 Page 2 .Mayor Warkentien opened the ' discussion regarding whether to retain RESOLUTION 79- or rescind Resolution 7'-8 - No Parking -Fire Lane - at 1607 West NO PARKING FI Larpenteur as presented at the February 28, 1979 Council Meeting. LANE, 1607 W. Mayor Warkentien explained to those in attendance that Council had LARPENTEUR received a request from the owners of Lido Cafe to allow parking next to the building and next to Larpenteur Avenue, leaving the center lane open as a.Fire Lane in order to conform with the park- ing arrangements in most of the City. Jean Klosterman, 3l~25 Skycroft Circle, St. Anthony, representing JF,AN KLOSTERMAN her parents, Mr.:and Mrs. Norbert Hermes, owners of the Hermes 3?~25 SKYGROFT. Shopping Center, addressed Council explaining that their preference ST. A?~'I'HONY for having the Fire Lane next to the building was because they were attempting to update the Shopping Center in accordance with the parking arrangements in other communities. Mike Labalestra and Gene Gasparro, representing Lido Cafe, informed MIKE LABALESTRA Council they feel placing the Fire Lane in the csjnter lane is more GENE GASPARRO practical due to the fact that it is in compliance with other exist- ing parking areas in the City. Mr. Labalestra also explained that the entrance to the present Fire Lane is narrowed to a point where it is impossible to pass through, due to the snow that is piled along Larpenteur narrowing the parking area. Mrs. Klosterman stated that the parking layout was planned carefully JEAN KLOST and approved by Engineer Lemberg. After a lengthy discussion Councilmember McGough moved, seconded by RESOLUTION 79-f, Councilmember Brown to rescind Resolution 79-8. Upon a vote being RESCINDED taken the following voted "aye": Mayor Warkentien, Councilme~nbers McGough and Brown, and the following voted "nay": Councilmembers Black and Steele. Motion carried. Councilmember Black moved, seconded by Councilmember Steele to instruct Engineer Lemberg and Fire Chief Renchin to further review the matter, and that the Councilmembers again examine the parking area. Motion carried unanimously. Mayor Warkentien presented a request from Clerk Administrator Barnes to purchase 2 "No Truck Route" signs to be posted at each end of the alley between Arona and Pascal north of Larpenteur. This request was made due to a letter from Mr. and Mrs. A. Clayton Zimmerman, 1163 West Larpenteur, informing that semi-trailers from the shopping center have been driving fihrough the alley. After some discusaion Councilmember Steele moved, seconded by Mayor NO PARKING ON Warkentien that parking be banned on the east side of Arona from the EAST SIDE OF alley to Larpenteur between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.~, ARDNA FROM ALLEY Monday through Friday, except holidays. Motion carried unanimously. TO LARPENTEUR It was f eft that this arrangement would enable semis to turn on to Arona more easily and would alleviate tho need to drive through tYie alley from Arona to Pascal.
