MINUTES <br />REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br />APRIL 23, 1980 <br />PAGE 3 <br />west and enlarged, extra drainage til~ will be installed, and the PARKING LOT <br />drainage ditch near Hollywood Court will be made deeper and sodded, (cont.) <br />hopefully alleviating many of the present drainage problems. <br />1 <br /> <br />Councilmember Steele arrived during this discussion. <br />Janet Brown, Chairperson of the Park and Playground Development <br />Committee, addressed Council regarding a proposed picnic shelter <br />for the Community Park. She informed that several contractors had <br />been contacted and the following three bids were presented: Bob <br />Mechura Construction - a 22' x 24' shelter complete - $6,750.00; <br />Earl Anderson Company - a 24' x 20' shelter, unassembled, no slab <br />and no shingles at a cost of $3,190.00 and approximately an addi- <br />tional $1,000 for assembly; Anton Peterson and Sons - a 20' x 24' <br />shelter - complete cost $4,450.00 The Committee recommended that <br />the bid from Anton Peterson and Sons be accepted. <br />A discussion followed regarding possible sites for the shelter. <br />The Committee submitted the following sites as those considered <br />by the Committee: (1) the lower flat area southeast of the small <br />pond in area where the grass is mowed, (2) the knoll area, and (3) <br />the area between the playground and the park building. Chairperson <br />Brown informed that the majority of the Committee Members preferred <br />site ~~1. George Plant, the dissenting member of the Committee, <br />informed Council that he felt the shelter should be placed in site <br />~~3 as all facilities are there and tfie area is lighted making for <br />better security. He also objected to constructing the shelter near <br />the wild life area. <br />It was agreed that since some Councilmembers had not viewed the sites <br />that they meet with Committee Members the following morning to check <br />the proposed site areas. <br />Councilmember Eggert expressed concern over <br />concrete slab cracking due to expansion and <br />be wise to have a gravel base or some other <br />for the slab. Council agreed that Engineer <br />garding the possible need of grading the si <br />pansion material in the slab. <br />the possibility of the <br />suggested that it might <br />sort of expansion material <br />Lemberg be consulted re- <br />te and the need for ex- <br />Councilmember Steele urged that the site checking and the consultation . <br />with the Engineer be done as soon as possible in order that the con- <br />tractor could order materials.
