exhaust systems and automotive transmissions. <br />Automobile service station (gas station; service station) means a place where any motor <br />fuel, lubricating oil or grease for operating motor vehicles is offered for sale to the public and <br />deliveries are made directly into motor vehicles. This definition includes greasing, oiling or sale <br />of automobile accessories on the premises. This definition also includes minor repairs and <br />replacement of 1½ tons capacity. This definition includes a private site where sales and service <br />are not offered to the general public but motor fuel is stored and deliveries are made directly to <br />employee, company owned, or leased motor vehicles. Such private service stations shall comply <br />with all standards as outlined in section 113-383. <br />Barbershops means establishments primarily engaged in furnishing barber and men's hair <br />styling services, including barber colleges. <br />Basement means a portion of a building between the floor and ceiling, located partly above <br />and partly below grade and having one-half or less of its floor-to-ceiling height below the <br />average grade of the adjoining ground. Underground houses that meet all other requirements of <br />the building code shall not be considered basements. <br />Beauty shops means establishments primarily engaged in furnishing beauty or hairdressing <br />services. Beauty and cosmetology schools are included in this industry. Beauty shops include <br />beauty and barber shops (combined), beauty culture schools, beauty shops or salons, <br />cosmetology shops or salons, facial salons, hairdressers, manicure and pedicure salons, and <br />unisex hairdressers. <br />Boardinghouse means a building other than a motel or hotel where, for compensation and by <br />pre-arrangement for definite periods, meals or lodging are provided for three or more unrelated <br />persons. <br />Building means any structure, either temporary or permanent, having a roof and used or built <br />for the shelter or enclosure of any person, animal, or property of any kind. When any portion <br />thereof is completely separated from every other part thereof by area separation, each portion of <br />such building shall be deemed as a separate building. <br />Building code means the Minnesota State Building Code as adopted by the city. <br />Building height means the vertical <br />distance between the average grade level <br />at the building line and the uppermost <br />point on a flat roof, to the mean distance <br />of the highest gable on a pitched, hip, or <br />gambrel roof, to the deck line of a <br />mansard roof, and to the uppermost <br />point on all other roof types. <br /> <br />Middle line on images for pitched/hip <br />and gambrel roofs denotes mean <br />distance.
