Said that with only one car operat- <br />ing west of Rice Street that it would be difficult to get around <br />and try doors in the business area, but suggested that a private <br />agency might be hired to do this. Spoke of a new radio system <br />to be set up in the County, July 1st, to conform with new wave <br />length government requirements, and four two-way radios to be <br />installed in the deputies cars. Said that the sheriff's services <br />can be had by calling Ga. 1154 or Ga. 1633 and that the message <br />will be relayed immediately to the deputy's oar. The sheriff <br />then asked if there were any questions. <br />William Uteoht Said there were those opposed to and those in favor of having <br />some protection of our own in the Village, and asked if the aherifP <br />felt we should have some local protection. The sheriff replied <br />that the Village should decide on what to do on their own policing, <br />it being something that would increase as population in our com- <br />munity increased. <br />Walter Schiel Inquired as to the need of trained personnel for local <br />protection. The sheriff said that F.B.I. and police schools <br />ark now set up~to provide this training. <br />G. I. Lodahl Referred to our present police setup whereby the Fire Department <br />is called to get one or both of our local police, and if neither <br />is home, that it is necessary to call the sheriff's office. <br />Gibbons advised calling the sheriff's office first, but on inquiry <br />by Fire Chief Swanson it was agreed that certain calls not re- <br />quiring the sheriff's services could be deferred until local <br />police could be contacted. <br />Paul Neid Chief Deputy Sheriff, Paul Neid, also being present, entered <br />into the discussions and provided supplementary information <br />on various quest ions. at the sheriff's request. <br />Street lights, Street Commissioner Seaborn reported that alight on Holton <br />Holton 8c Larpenteur & and Larpenteur had been approved by the County Commissioners <br />Hemline and Iowa. and would be installed within 30 days. Said that a light <br />needed at Hemline and Iowa would cost ;43.00 per year, includ- <br />ing the installing and operating costs. Lindig moved that a <br />light be installed at Hemline and Iowa. Henry seconded and <br />motion carried. <br />Local planning After discussion, it was agreed to have our attorney check the <br />board 8 proposed statutes as to powers of the proposed Local Planning Board. <br />road plan. Also Shavor moved that Commissioner Seaborn ask the County <br />Engineer to prepare a proposed road plan for the urea bounded <br />by Snelling, Larpenteur, Fairview and Roselawn. Seconded by <br />Stewart and carried. <br />Wilson property In connection with the Wilson property, Seaborn inquired as <br />& vacating three to the proposal to vacate three alleys between Idaho and Iowa, <br />allays. Iowa and Hoyt and the driveway running north and south at the <br />end of Iowa. Shavor moved that the proposed plan of the <br />County Surveyor be approved and that the Village indicate its <br />willingness to give an easement on the southeast corner of <br />Lot 1, Block 10, Northome Second Addition, for turn-around <br />purposes. Seco nded by Rekstad and carried unanimously. <br />
