Canfield stated he realized we had one of the best fire departments in the state, but did not think we could afford one. suitable for a community of 50,000. He also expressed the wish that the Fire Department committee would hold a public hearing on the matter. Lorris l~illiams said that after five years of operation it was time to review and to look over things to see what improvements, if any, could be made, and that he thought Councilman Shavor should be complimented on the Fire Department report and information he had presented. James t'~'hite spoke of the need of allowing the people to be heard on such matters. No one else wishing to be heard, discussion from the floor was closed. 500 copies of Shavor then moved that the clerk be authorized to secure report and proposed 500 copies of the information, report and proposed ordinance revision ordin~nce revisio for distribut~ipn to ~nt~erested people,wi~-h o .c of 'k he res ~tt erd nan e,- or ~rta.nc o ordered. JVith regard to a statement that many of the people present had attended a previous meeting, the Clerk asked the Mayor what he knew of such a meeting. 1!~r, Earl Hanscom, 17t~7 Holton, replied that the meeting was held in his home because of rumors about the Fire Department proposal that 1~r. Shavor was to present. He added that after hearing the proposal he now felt there is nothing to be excited about since it is intended to hold a public hearing; on the whole matter. Fire Department Cartwright submitted report of the Fire Department committee, Committee report reading the minutes of a meeting of said committee held on February 8, 195.. He then furnished a copy of the minutes of the February 8 meeting to the clerk for his file. Stewart moved that the Fire Department committees report as submitted be accepted, St,enzinger seconded and motion carried unanimously. Seconded by Hustrulid and the following vote taken and recorded: Ayes: Sten~inger, Shavor,Hustrulid, Cartwright, Stewart Nays: None Ordinance No. 26 was then declared duly adopted by a unanimous vote and publication of same was ordered.
