Kenneth Hanson asked if the proposed. ordinance <br />revision was for getting rid of Fire Chief Swanson. <br />Dr. D.G. Canfield stated he realized we had one of the best fire departments <br />in the state, but did not think we could afford one. suitable <br />for a community of 50,000. He also expressed the wish that <br />the Fire Department committee would hold a public hearing <br />on the matter. <br />Lorris l~illiams said that after five years of operation it was time to <br />review and to look over things to see what improvements, if <br />any, could be made, and that he thought Councilman Shavor <br />should be complimented on the Fire Department report and <br />information he had presented. <br />James t'~'hite spoke of the need of allowing the people to be heard on <br />such matters. <br />No one else wishing to be heard, discussion from the <br />floor was closed. <br />500 copies of Shavor then moved that the clerk be authorized to secure <br />report and proposed 500 copies of the information, report and proposed <br />ordinance revision ordin~nce revisio for distribut~ipn to ~nt~erested people,wi~-h <br />o .c of 'k he res ~tt erd nan e,- or ~rta.nc o <br />ordered. S~t~nzinger s~conc~ed and motion carried unanimously. <br />JVith regard to a statement that many of the people present <br />had attended a previous meeting, the Clerk asked the Mayor <br />what he knew of such a meeting. 1!~r, Earl Hanscom, 17t~7 Holton, <br />replied that the meeting was held in his home because of rumors <br />about the Fire Department proposal that 1~r. Shavor was to <br />present. He added that after hearing the proposal he now <br />felt there is nothing to be excited about since it is intended <br />to hold a public hearing; on the whole matter. <br />Fire Department Cartwright submitted report of the Fire Department committee, <br />Committee report reading the minutes of a meeting of said committee held on <br />February 8, 195.. He then furnished a copy of the minutes <br />of the February 8 meeting to the clerk for his file. Stewart <br />moved that the Fire Department committees report as submitted <br />be accepted, St,enzinger seconded and motion carried unanimously. <br />Ordinance No. 2b The proposed ordinance was read, After discussion, Gartwright_ <br />adopted moved adoption of Ordinance No. 26, AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR <br />CTVIL DEFEi~SE AND FOR PROTECTION AND PROMOTION OF PUBLIC SAFETY, <br />HEALTH, AND V4F;LFARE iii THE VILLAGE OF FALCON HEIGHTS DURING <br />CIVIL DEFENSE F~uIERGLNCIFS. Seconded by Hustrulid and the <br />following vote taken and recorded: <br />Ayes: Sten~inger, Shavor,Hustrulid, Cartwright, Stewart <br />Nays: None <br />Ordinance No. 26 was then declared duly adopted by a unanimous <br />vote and publication of same was ordered. <br />
