"~~+ Chenoweth stated that the County might consider <br /> sharing to a small extent in the cost. of such lighting, He <br /> also fold of other esoarmt~nnities where business had increased <br /> considerably with improved lighting, Installation of pedestrian <br /> cross-walk signals, Chenoweth said, would identify t:he crossing <br /> at all seasons. After further discussion, Stewart moved that <br /> Trustee Hustrulid be requested to meat as soon as possible with <br /> those representing the business property owners, businessmen, <br /> the Northern States Power Company and County Engineer's office <br /> for the purpose of studying the matter and bringing in a <br /> recommendation to the council. Stenzinger seconded and motion <br /> carried unanimously. <br />Pro posed street ?t"r. Tretter, of the Northern States Power Company, explained <br />lighting contract, the proposed contract which his Company offers the Village <br />Northern States at an annual saving of X5.00 per light on street lighting costs <br />Power Co. as compared with what is paid to the County at present for this <br /> service. ~1r. Tretter said that Villages are entitled to a lower <br /> rate since they are not spread out as the County is, Ne also <br /> said that the County had asked the Northern. States Power Company <br /> to try ar~'3 negotiate street lighting contracts with the villages <br /> and townships. After discussion, Cartwright !roved that the <br /> proposed street lighting contract be referred to our atto rneY <br /> for study and report to the council at its next meeting. <br /> Seconded by Stevaart and carried unanimously. <br />Tree Trimming Letter of L4arch 17 from Attorney Graham, as to trim-ning <br /> trees adjoining the strEets, was read and discussed. <br /> A question that. developed concerning branches of trees on <br /> private property overhanging public property, was referred <br /> • to our attorney for checking and report. <br />Blacktopping I~et+.,er of rdarch 13, 195 from Attorney Graham, relating to <br />private driveways responsibility of the Village to blacktop the portion of private <br /> driveways from the property line to the paved or blacktopped <br /> portion of the street, The attorney reported that the owner <br /> has no right to require the Village to construct such driveway, <br /> but that the abutting owner has such right to construct such <br /> driveway subject to reasonable regulation by the Village. <br /> After discussion, Stenzinger moved that the matter be referred <br /> back to our attorney for takinp• up with the street commissioner <br /> the question of whether or not an ordinance regulating construction <br /> of driveways by permit is desirable, Seconded by Cartwright and <br />- carried unanimously. <br />Farney The request of ~:ir, Frank J. Farney, of February 2~a, 195~t, asking <br />Variation for permission to divide his property at Pascal and Roselawn into <br />request three separate lots with two facing on Roselawn and one facing <br /> on Pascal (one of the lots as proposed being composed of only <br /> 9,900 square feet) was considered as a request fora variance <br /> under Ordinance No, 17. Cm motion by Hustrulid, seconded by <br /> Cartwright, the council found that the granting of such <br /> variation would not affect adversely health, safety or general <br /> welfare or public or private property, and voted unanimously <br />
