J. Husby and the ?'. T. A. <br />Siren Hustrulid reported that the siren alarm system had been checked with <br />controls Tieso Electric people who said that the proper control would be in- <br /> stalled as soon as received. <br />Lighting of On lighting of the business area, Hustrulid reported he had talked <br />business area with Mr. Bishop, of the Falcon Heights businessmen~s association, <br />who informed him that the ligh ting proposal is not acceptable to <br />the business property owners and that no further action by the <br />.businessmen on ornamental lighting is being considered. In view of <br />this, Hustrulid recommended that the council give consideration to <br />installing of a stop light or a more desirable pectiestrian crossing <br />control. <br />Island Lake In connection with proposed plans for running Trunk Highway #10 <br />property thru or around Island Lake; Hustrulid reported on attending a <br />meeting on this matter, which was held in the office of ~,g. J. <br />Hoffman, State Highway Commissioner, Thursday afternoon, November <br />18, 1951. Hustrulid said that his recommendation based on non- <br />controversial facts presented at the meeting, was that the council <br />ti^rithdraw its opposition to the proposed routing of Highway #10, <br />and so moved. Cartwright seconded, stating he did so for the purposes <br />~~ bringing the matter up for discussion. <br />Judge Dane Judge Royden Dane then appeared before the council and said he was <br />for preserving speaking in behalf of the people of Ramsey County, and praised the <br />property Island Lake area as a recreational site which should be pEeserved, <br />pointing out th at such areas are quite limited in Ramsey County. <br />Judge Dane said this could be done by moving the proposed routs <br />of the highway about one-quarter mile north onto right-of-way which <br />the State Highway Department owns. He urged. council members before <br />acting on withdrawing. their opposition to the highway crossing the <br />lake, to go out and view the island property for themselves. <br />Shavor pointed out that when the highway is once constructed there would <br />be no chance of re-routing later, and where communities do not <br />establish parks that they often go to great expense to establish <br />them later. He expressed a desire to view the property. <br />Motion After some further discussion, Cartwright moved that the motion be <br />tabled tabled. Stenzinger seconded and the following vote was taken and <br />recorded.: <br />Ayes: Stenzinger <br />Shavor <br />Cartwright <br />Stewart <br />Naysi Hustrulid <br />The motion was then declared tabled by afour-fifths vote. <br />
