el <br />C,D. Loeks Letter of December 30, 1951 from the Planning Commission <br />report on was read, relative to Planning Consultant C.D. Loeks <br />commercial opinion as to the policy which the Village should follow <br />zoning west with respect to additional com'ercial zoning along <br />of Snelling Larpenteur avenue west of Snelling. Also presented was <br />a report by Mr. Loeks summarizing the results of a <br />preliminary study of the matter, together with a map <br />illustrating the basis fair his conclusions; namely <br />"that the Villa ge wait until additional information is <br />developed as to the kinds of commercial uses which could <br />be established in the area under consideration before any <br />action is taken to rezone the property under consideration <br />for commercial purposes." After discussion, Hustrulid <br />moved acceptance of the report. Shavor seconded and motion <br />carried unanimously. <br />Minnesota Safety Letter o.f December 29, 1951, from the P,.?innesota. Safety <br />Council Council requesting information on traffic safety engineering <br />activities and accomplis~aments for the year 195l~, together <br />Annual Traffic with Safety Council's letter of January 6, 1955, about R.V. <br />Safety Report Juetten,Assistant Secretary, to assist with completion of <br />the annual reports for the traffic safety contest when in <br />Falcon Heights on January 25. Cartwright moved that said <br />litters and report forms be referred to the Public Safety <br />Committee. Stewart seconded and motion carried unanimously. <br />County's authority In connection with question raised by Mr. Hal Newell at <br />to do road work for the December 22, 1951 meeting as to the authority of the <br />Village costing County to do road maintenance work for the Village where <br />more than 9500. the cost exceeds ffi500.00; Attorney Graham reported in his <br /> letter of December 29, 1951, that Chapter 2l~lt, Laws of <br /> Minnesota for 1953, passed April 7, 1953 <br />provide "that <br /> , <br />the Village council may authorize the county to construct <br /> and maintain highways without advertising for .bids, the <br /> only exception being that the construction must be ..part of <br /> a maintenance job and cannot cost more than `!522,500.00 for <br /> any project." <br />Regional Planning After discussion, Stewart moved that letter of January 5, <br />Commission 1955, from the League of I~9innesot,a Municipalities, relating <br />to the December 23 conferenceoh tentative bill for establish- <br />ment of an advisory regional planning commission, together <br />with attached papers; namely, (1) Report of Dec. 23 conference <br />(2) Revised draft of bill (3) The ARC's of Regional Planning, <br />be referred to our planning commission for study. Hustrulid <br />seconded and motion carried unanimously. <br />Civil Defense Civil Defense Director Swanson's letter of January 12, <br />committee recommends submitting recommendation of the Falcon Heights Civil <br />purchase of Bell & Defense unit that the Village purchase and install "The <br />Lights air raid Bell and Lights Air Raid Warning System:' After discussion, <br />warning system Cartwright moved that the council authorize the Civil <br />Defense Unit to make application fora Bell and Lights Air <br />Raid ltiarning System, provided the installation can be secured <br />under the matching funds system, and if the maintenance is <br />also covered by matching funds.
